World War 2 photo: The tail of the crashed English bomber Halifax , – Halifax B.Mk.V with the onboard number NA-U, serial number DK270. The aircraft was part of the 428th Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force (428Sqn RCAF), although of the seven crew members only one was Canadian. On the night of September 27 to September 28, 1943, starting from Middleton St. George in England, the aircraft participated in a raid on the German city of Hanover. Successfully bombarded, Halifax on the way back crashed when trying to get on the airfield in the Parham area (Parham, Suffolk County, east of England). At that time, the US 390-bomber group based on B-17 was based. Killed four crew members out of seven (three in place and one died later), two were injured.
