"The Bothersome Man" - is it about you?
For me, it's a movie about the system and about the mediocrity which this system is based on. The movie doesn't have a 'happy end'; it seems to be permeated with greyness, emptiness and indifference.
It doesn't sound positive at all. Then why should you finish reading this article and watch the movie itself?
The movie is about us. About the world we live in. About the system that turns us into the residents of that city from the movie.
The work of the Norwegian director will help you look at yourself from a different angle, re-evaluate what is happening to you and, perhaps, change your attitude to life in general.
In addition to these questions that arise while watching the movie, try to answer the question at the end of this post.
Briefly about the plot: the main character finds himself in a city where everything seems to be calm, people seem happy, going about their business. He gets all the conditions for a satisfied life: an apartment, a job, good colleagues, a girlfriend. However, everything looks ... empty and cardboard. Starting with the city itself, ending with the people and their dialogues.
In order not to reveal the plot of the entire film (trust me, there will be blood-stirring moments), let's move on to the main idea.
And the essence of the work is reflected in the original title - the hero bother others. He prevents the citizens from living. He wanted to get more than ordinary residents, he dared to experience real feelings and emotions. And, of course, the system people wouldn't let him do it.
What did he dare to do? How was he interrupted? The answers are in the movie.
Why does this film evoke emotions? As already mentioned - all this is about us. about me. and probably about you.
We, humans (surprisingly), often go along with the system. We take what we are offered. We believe in what we are told: "People are happy and satisfied living this way, so you should be content with it." The most popular scenario of “relevant” people in the real world: kindergarten, school, university, (army), work, death. How many people agree to this scenario? Even if it doesn’t satisfy them.
And even if you don´t consider yourself such an "appropriate" (for a system) person - reflect on this topic. We are arranged in such way, that we are ready to adapt to any conditions, and to perceive some information as true without any criticism. We don't even realize that we are “appropriate” because we initially think that THIS is true. We become part of the system and support it without noticing it. Appear only a few “inappropriate” people who truly understand what they need, that they may do differently, that they just may...
Try to find a way out of this mediocre town.
Imagine that the system, in which you now live, no longer exists. There is only you and no previous attitudes and rules. Ask yourself, " What makes me truly satisfied and fulfilled?" . Ignoring the usual settings. You may not answer right away. This is difficult, because from childhood we are taught what we should enjoy, what we should love, what to respect and what to strive for. We should love slim bodies; At school a grade A is good, and F-students are losers; Earning a lot of money is a necessity; You are not rich - your opinion doesn’t matter a lot. And it doesn't matter that you don't get real pleasure and buzz from the standard scenario. And what this town offers you is not always a reflection of your true needs. We must try to dig them out and become truly happy.
P.S. in many ways, the topic also intersects with the real political agenda (mostly in Russia where I live): suddenly, “bothersome people" decided to speak out against the existing system, and that system actively suppresses this initiative. Here you try to express your opinion in a political "town", and you become an "inappropriate person".
