Resume creation tips

When clients ask me for resume reviews I go top-to-bottom, line by line when I make recommendations.

After years of reviews, here are the 5 most common "issues" I find myself repeating, over and over, for students & jobseekers 👇


🛑 1 - Including a link to a #LinkedIn profile and then hyperlink the words to the profile web address.

🛑 2 - Including a "Professional Summary" immediately followed by a "Summary of Skills", sometimes followed by a "Special Projects" section. On very few occasions is this necessary, and most clients repeat much of the same info. I'd recommend picking just one.

🛑 3 - Including a full street address. This amount of personal information isn't recommended. Just list the nearest large city and the state (ex: Seattle, WA)

🛑 4 - Having nothing in the resume that specifically matches up with the target job posting or even the skill type. Build the resume to prove you can do the job!

🛑 5 - Not surprisingly... A failure to 1) describe the result of the work or effort that was done, and 2) quantify that result in a measurable way. Use numbers if possible.
