I was over the moon when I've got a ticket to Ireland. Of course, I've heard something about the country, but I have never bothered to research anything concerning this country. I knew it got its independence quite recently, the colour of the flag, and that the shamrock is somehow connected to Ireland's culture. That is the extent of my knowledge, but I'm sure that Vanya knows even less. I guess my grandparents thought it would be a good idea to send us to a foreign country unchaperoned. What were they thinking, though? It's not like my brother is the responsible one in the family. On the other hand, I'm sure it will be fun to go there without our parents and explore the country, talk to people without thinking that our parents are bored, and needing to translate everything for them.
My brother doesn't seem too happy somehow. I wonder what happened. He is always quite loud and opinionated, but today he's been quiet.

The happiness on Rita's face was hard not to notice. She wanted to go to an English-speaking country to practice her English, but I never imagined that I'll go with her. Besides Julia, my girlfriend wasn't understanding when I told her I was going home for the holidays. I have a hard time believing she'd like the idea of me going away for a couple of months. She has yet to respond to the song that I've sent her. I start to worry, as she never takes this much time to respond. It's been a couple of hours, but she didn't even send an emoji.
My parents are asking if I'm excited. I mean, don't get me wrong, I am excited, just the idea of going away with my sister to look after in the trip makes me nervous. Rita is independent, but she still is a teenager, and she's never been away from the parents, so I do the only thing I can do in the moment, I fake a smile.

I'm sitting in the plane only a few days after my university graduation. I'm happy to go on holiday, but leaving all my friends behind is harder than I expected. They are worried about starting their Master's or getting a stable job, while I get to be a care-free ex-student for a couple more months. I promised Julia that I will call her every day, but she wasn't happy with that. She said that we need to break up. I did not expect this kind of reaction. I foresaw her being upset or wanting to go with me, but not this. And then I got to know that she started dating one of my friends only a day after we broke up. So concluding that I was having mixed feelings towards the whole Ireland situation, which Rita did, was a gross understatement.
As we are taking off, I start to wonder what is waiting for us in this country. Will it bring joy or will it make us more cynical? Of course, Rita has done an extensive research right after she got her ticket. I, however, had other things on my mind. But maybe that's for the better? Maybe I should let this new adventure, be just that, an adventure?
