Hey,guys! Let’s speak about one more significant landmark of St.Petersburg!
Palace Square - is the main square of St. Petersburg. This is one of the most beautiful architectural ensembles in the world. The best Russian architects worked on its creation. It received its name from the name of the Winter Palace, built by the architect F.B. Rastrelli in the middle of the 18th century.
The center of the square is the Alexander Column, erected in 1830-1834. It also symbolizes the victory of the Russian troops over the French. The monument was made from a single piece of pink granite. On top of it is the figure of an angel holding a cross. The granite monument, 48 meters high, is not fixed on a pedestal, but is held by its own weight. Initially, this aroused fears among the townspeople, but almost two centuries have passed, and the column continues to stand.
In the evening, Palace Square is decorated with millions of illumination lights that create a fabulous atmosphere, especially in winter.
It’s also the most popular and well known place in the city among tourists.Like if you have ever been here!
