Doing volunteer work is to make a difference to the world, make a better living on a planet. If you gradually start to increase your participation in volunteering more and more you will be more aware of what’s happening in the area where you live. Why don’t you try your skills in volunteering? Above all you will make life easier around you, so you make it also for yourself.
Who did give a start to volunteering?
It’s interesting to know when volunteering took its start. There are 2 versions of it. The first one is connected with the history of Russia, with Yaroslav’s Mudry management. It was the time when orphanages started to appear. There were living children by themselves and were supported by people who wanted to help them with their lives. Children were taught to read and write, different kinds of science. After finishing there they went to work in a monastery or went to serve rich people.
There is an example of how a ruler himself came to ordinary people and tried to help them with problems by giving money or anything else. This usually happened on special days.

Another version of volunteering took its start in Europe in the 17th century. People who went to war at their wish were called “volontaire” as the French language so it meant volunteers.
Compulsory service wasn’t at that time. So it was pretty unusual to take part in that. Only in the 20th century all started to call volunteers other people who were willing to help society.
People started bring together and made volunteering organizations
It is considered that volunteering programmes started in Europe during “the black death”. A lot of people were brought together in groups to help, to collect dead bodies in the streets and to fire them by that they could clean their towns from “the black death”.
It was the first step of beginning volunteering programmes. It gave other people a sign to take part in it and became more aware of the social issues which faced comunity.

Another example is about Russian monks who in 1870 by their decision went to the war working, helping people as nurses.
Exactly after their actions a lot of women would like to get involved in that and that time the organization of red cross started to exist. So it was a really big step. This organization is still active.
