«One and a half…”

1 «What time is it? I think it is about ten thirty.

Ten thirty. = half ten. What time is it? I think it is about half ten.»

2 «She is the most remarkable person - always ready to help anyone who needs it.

the most remarkable person = one in a million.»

«She is one in a million - always ready to help anyone who needs it».

3 “He never stops talking about motorbikes.

He never thinks about anything else. = He has a one track mind”.

4 “If we go out for a meal, I insist that we share the cost equally between us. = go halves;/ I insist that we go halves”.

5 “We have booked into a lovely hotel by the sea and have chosen to have breakfast and dinner there. = stay half board./или по-другому: «We have booked into a lovely hotel by the sea and have chosen to stay half board”.

6 “This coat is beautiful and it is in the sale! It is 50 per cent cheaper than normal. = half price. По-другому предложение звучит следующим образом. «This coat is beautiful and it is in the sale! It is half price”./

7 «I don’t mind Mondays because I only have to work from 9 am until 1 pm instead of all day”. = from 9 am until 1 pm означает также = half day Таким образом, по-другому это предложение звучит так.
«I don’t mind Mondays because I only have to work a half day instead of all day“.

8 “Do you have many close friends? Yes, a couple. = a couple означает также one or two и по-другому это предложение звучит следующим образом.
«Do you have many close friends? Yes, one or two”.

9 “She cleaned her room but she did it without much effort or interest = without much effort or interest означает также half heartedly, в переводе: нерешительно; или не проявляя особых попыток, либо интереса; по-другому это предложение звучит следующим образом. «She cleaned her room but she did it half-hearteadly”./и так далее…/статья еще не закончена. 10 “One of my parents is Portuguese and the other is British, so I am not 100 per cent British”./ фраза из этого предложения «I am not 100 per cent British” означает также = half Portuguese/British; таким образом, по-другому это предложение звучит следующим образом.
«One of my parents is Portuguese and the other is British, so I am half Portuguese/British”.

11. “The entrance was very narrow so we had to walk in one after another./ = one by one, то есть фраза из этого предложения one after another означает также one by one. И по-другому это предложение звучит так. “The entrance was very narrow so we had to walk in one by one”.

12. We live an equal distance between the canal and the main road.=/half way. Фраза из этого предложения an equal distance between также означает half way. Следовательно, по-другому это предложение звучит так.
«We live half way between the canal and the main road”.

13. “The prime minister was criticised for presenting an argument that was unfair and only showed one side of the subject./=Фраза из этого предложения unfair and only showed one side of the subject означает также one-sided И по-другому это предложение звучит так. “The prime minister was criticised for presenting an argument that was one-sided”.

14. “My neighbours are so noisy I really want to complain to the police./= I really want фраза, которая также означает to have half a mind. Следовательно, по-другому это предложение звучит так. «My neighbours are so noisy that I have half a mind to complain to the police”.

Выражение to have half a mind/a good mind to do something толкуется в словарях так, и означает следующее.»to think that you might do something, often because something has annoyed you.»

15 Having aa French mother means she has an advantage over the rest of the French class./=фраза из этого предложения has an advantage over также означает is one up on. Следовательно, по-другому это предложение звучит так. Having a French mother means she is one up on the rest of the French class”.

Выражение “one up on« в переводе означает «иметь преимущество; быть на один шаг впереди кого-либо”.

«Пример употребления на английском языке. »Simon is one up on the other employees because he works very hard”./“
