In vain - If you do sth in vain, it doesn`t pay off and your efforts are futile ( don`t bring results) When you spend time in vain, you waste it
Breathe down sb`s neck - to stay close to someone, watching everything that they do:
None other than - when you use this expression, you want to emphasize a person or thing you`re talking about.
