What Activities do Teenagers do on Social Media?

Every time when I get stuck in writing a new paper on a writing task related to the state uniform exam on English (for high schoolers), I think what a poor thing I am! Because... some of the tasks are poorly formulated or being too far fetched to comment on their subjects to the point. However, don't take me wrong, I wouldn't go so far as to say that EGE Writing tasks are useless. On the contrary, writing answers to any unpredictable, unexpected or seemingly contradictory questions is always worth doing!

Imagine that you are doing a project on
what teenagers in Zetland use social networks for.. You have found some data on the subject –– the results of the opinion polls ( see the pie chart below)
Comment on the data in the pie chart and give your opinion on the subject of the project.

Write 200-250 words. Use the following plan:
-make an opening statement on the subject of the project;
-select and report 2-3 facts;
-make 1-2 comparisons where relevant and give your comments;
-outline a problem that can arise with using social networks,  and suggest a way of solving it;
-conclude by giving and explaining your opinion on the role of social networks in our life.

A Sample Answer

The use of social media is a running theme of discussion in school communities. Currently participating in a project that aims at studying what Zetland teenagers use social networks for, I have examined valid statistics on this subject. I will elaborate on the data in the following essay.

The statistics rate particular activities that the respondents do on social media, as a percentage. The outcomes of the polls prove two distinct features: the highest activity related to listening to music (52%) and the lowest one to blogging (4%).

In particular, the statistics show that over twice as many teenagers (23%) use social networks to communicate with friends, compared with the number of respondents who look for the information on networks and those who prefer to watch films (11 and 10 %%, relatively). I believe, chatting with friends has gathered higher momentum these days because socialisation is one of the important priorities for the youth before they start their independent social life. By comparison, Zetland teenagers have low interest is browsing networks because they see it as a waste of time.

An expected problem that can arise with using social networks is that some gullible and vulnerable teenagers become victimised by dishonest users. I would suggest that schools should provide lectures for students to raise their awareness of potential risks using social media.

I am convinced that networks are part and parcel of our life. The core feature of them is that they interconnect people with their relatives and friends. Social nets also offer copious resources represented thematically to satisfy every taste and request.
