Fashion has seemingly become a pressing issue perpetually penetrated into our life, especially the life of fashion-conscious teenagers, whatever it concerns -- a craze for healthy food, tattoos, design clothes etc. But, could you, older generation, tell me your craze for bell bottoms in the 70s from a modern youngster's fad for ripped jeans? I can still hear my late parents questions 'Why d'you press us for a new pair of shoes when you have three unworn yet? Not on your life!' The answer was still the same 'They're already not in trend'. And on and on.
Every day, we see advertisements on TV, on the Internet, in magazines, and in the streets. Nowadays, trusting adverts, many people squander huge amount of time to keep themselves up to speed with new vogue, let alone money when buying trendy things.
In my judgment, those who follow new trends, are wasters. In the first place, the latest fashions are not always comfortable to wear. Some individuals buy new styles without thinking of whether a new outfit is fit or comfy. Isn't it the fashion that dictates what wear we should sport, and not our own preferences which are expected to inform our choice. Secondly, new tendencies frequently replace one another. Thus, people, who want to look stylish at any time , at any events, have to buy something new, which apparently leads to cluttering their wardrobes with unnecessary things. As a result, they spend more and more money. As for the older generation, I'm curious about whether there has been a shift in attitudes towards fashion since their own school or university days...
However, some people state a fashionable thing is a necessary attribute of every respectful person. They say that a stylish appearance is a passport to success in society. Do you think so?
I cannot share this view. I am positive that not only by appearance can respectability be upheld, but also by the intellectual potential of a person which counts the lion’s share of making a good impression on others. As the saying goes, ‘Do not judge a book by its cover’. To contribute extra money to increasing your knowledge appears to be more reasonable investment unless you have the wherewithal for everything .
To recap, following latest styles is unnecessary spending money. In lieu of it, contributing to self-development seems more sensible than spending money and time, pursuing fashions.
