•A GAP YEAR•

People used to think that taking a gap year was negative. In the past you took a gap year if you had to retake exams or had problems between finishing school and starting higher education and then starting a career. But now, universities positively encourage a gap year and employers are happy to give jobs to students who take a gap year. A year out between school or college and higher education or employment, can give you useful learning experiences, help to pick up new skills and start to be more independent. Employers and universities want to see evidence, independence and commitment. And gap year is one of the best ways to build up these skills. 🏆Top reasons for taking a gap year: 📍Where and what? A year out between school or college and higher education or employment, can give you useful learning experiences, help to pick up new skills and start to be more independent. Employers and universities want to see evidence, independence and commitment. And gap year is one of the best ways to build up these skills.

🏆Top reasons for taking a gap year:

  • Take time to discover yourself and set personal goals.
  • Get out of your comfort zone, meet people from different cultures and get a new perspective on life.
  • Get practical experience that will support you during your studies.
  • Feel refreshed, inspired and encouraged for the future life.

📍Where and what?

I think, traveling is one of the best ways to feel independent, meet new people and learn a lot not only about the world but also about yourself.

So, if you are ready for an adventure CityGAP programme is for you. Participants in the programme live in New York and use this city as a classroom, laboratory, studio and community to meet the challenges they face.

CityGAP partner with city officials, artists, policymakers, journalists, performers, activists and entrepreneurs, so that participants could try their hand at a variety of areas of life. Participants work on both group and individual projects, producing a portfolio of original work in a variety of media.

🖇️PROGRAM: it begins with two weeks of exploring the origins and organization of New York City, collaborating as a group, and learning to navigate the city. Exploring the NYC’s streets, transportation network and neighborhoods, architecture and monuments, unique social geography.

Then it is moving into a Group Project developed by participants. The final products may include: exhibitions, design projects, podcasts, videos and documentaries, model-making, public art projects, websites, policy proposals, performance, walking tours, etc.

Also, at the end of the CityGAP program, each of the participants will present their personal project. The program will conclude with an online and in-person exhibition of work, including partners, parents and invited guests.

The Group Project "How can grassroots organizations help NYC to re-emerge more sustainably and equitably?"

⭐️Review from Mateo

I had a great time with CityGap. It was a great experience even during COVID. I learned so much about New York City, met great people, and added to my resume. This program is flexible and is good for any type of interest. If you are a curious and motivated person I can not recommend this more highly.

The program itself is run by two amazing people, Andrew and Tanya! They make the program what it is. They are kind, attending, and a pleasure to work with. I highly suggest that if you are interested at all to reach out and have a video call. You will learn much more about the program and see if it fits with you. I am sure it will!
