- Pollution of the world's land, air, and water is one of the most serious problems of our civilization. Overpopulation, massive deforestation, ozone depletion, acid rains and global warming (as a consequence of the greenhouse effect) are now our reality.
- Seas and oceans are filled with toxic wastes, and chemical fertilizers. Factories emit tons of harmful substances and cars emit exhaust fumes. All that leads to disastrous consequences for our planet. The climate is changing. It is getting warmer.
- People now realise that environmental problems are not somebody else's. We join various green organizations. Some of us sort rubbish so that it could be recycled. Also we can plant trees, because they can give us more oxygen. We can drive less and use public transport more. Scientists and engineers are able to find ways to reduce pollution. Government can pass laws to protect our planet. Environmental protection is of a universal concern. That is why serious measures to create a system of ecological security should be taken.
