Wat “Pagoda” is a nice, quiet place that you can visit after the exploration at Angkor complex. Strolling around to see interesting activities, religious paintings on building’s wall depicting Karma, sin and merit that the bad/good human would religiously get after they passed away as well as Buddhism ceremonies which are still practiced until the present, walk around at the backyard where you can observe Cambodian and Chinese stupas and the death processes of each religions. It would be fantastic if you have your tour guide who can explain you more about interesting life of the monks, culture and tradition. You have free time to enjoy the tranquility, hear birds singing and take some of exotic photos.
Wat Thmey
Just located along the way to Angkor Wat, about 3 km from central town. Not a big pagoda, but there are many tourists come daily to visit its Killing Fields’ memorial where hundreds of skulls were stored and the tour guide always unlocks the tragic history let by Khmer Rouge from 1975-1979.
Wat Bo
Situated close to the town (less than 1km), one of the largest pagodas in Siem Reap. If you travel from the central market, pass the Wat Bo bridge, keep going straight about 400 meters. You will see the yellow, large compound buildings, that is the Wat Bo pagoda.
Wat Prohm Roth
Takes a few minute walk from old market, just behind the provincial hospital. Wat Prohm is a small interesting pagoda for tourist to wander around for sightseeing, take photos as well as see how it works or you may like to make a short conversation with Buddhist monks.
