Experts from Belarus have created and mastered a new technique for non-surgical treatment of thyroid nodules. Only one puncture into the gland under the control of ultrasound allows manipulation, after which the tissue of the node is destroyed, and after some time it is scarred.
The Belarus Today news agency published an article on how endoscrinologists from BelMAPO apply a new technology for the treatment of thyroid nodules.
We are talking about the application of radio frequency ablation of nodular tissue, i.e. targeted destruction of a tissue site by high temperatures.
The essence of the method of radiofrequency ablation is used in the world. Its meaning is that through a needle inserted into the thyroid gland node (under the control of ultrasound), a thin metal element is passed through which a high-intensity electric pulse is sent, converted to heat at a temperature that allows the cell to melt inside the node - coagulation, or in a different way - a burn. This action stops further proliferation of node cells.
Radiofrequency ablation has INDICATIONS and CONTRAINDICATIONS
Indications:
1) only with benign nodes,
2) with nodes that do not produce or produce little thyroid hormones (T4 and T3);
2) with hyperthyroid thyroid nodes, i.e. when the host produces excess thyroid hormones (in particular, T3fr.), i.e. hyperthyroidism,
3) with nodes-adenomas at the developmental stage, with a significantly intensive course (i.e., very active reproduction of node cells).
Contraindications:
1) malignant nodes,
2) benign small and medium sized nodes with normal or increased production of hormones (including hot ones during scintigraphy), in which a blood test shows euthyroidism and a compensated amount of thyroid hormones (i.e. TSH, T3sv. And T4sv. Normal ) Such nodes are useful in producing the right amount of hormones.
3) very abundant blood flow to the node or location near the artery node.
So, not all nodes need to be deleted, including using radiofrequency ablation techniques.
To clarify the indications for the procedure, it is appropriate to conduct a professional ultrasound and thyroid scintigraphy, to do a blood test for TSH, T3fr., T4fr., T4com., T3com., total blood analysis and coagulation indicators.
