In particular, the solid-state drive should eliminate the need for loading screens or reduce them to minimum values. But what does this mean in terms of simple mathematics? According to a statement made by Sony chief Executive Kenichiro Yoshida during a recent meeting on the company's corporate strategy, the PS5 will be able to process data about 100 times faster than the current-generation console hardware.
Yoshida's words are given in an official document published in the public domain:
"To make the virtual world experience even deeper, we expect to improve not only the resolution, but also the speed of games. For example, with a custom high-speed SSD, we plan to achieve game data processing speeds about 100 times faster than the PS4. Downloads should be much shorter, and players should be able to move around huge game worlds almost instantly".
Yoshida also reviewed two other important aspects of the PS5 that he believes will significantly improve the game's immersion. The first is connected to the DualSense controller, whose design will offer tactile feedback and adaptive triggers, which will allow you to "feel" games in a new way. The second thing he mentioned is a dedicated processor unit for processing 3D sound, capable of creating a 360-degree soundscape around the player. According to Yoshida, the combination of all these features in the new console will provide gamers with experiences that were previously impossible.
Sony has not yet fully introduced the PS5. This is expected to happen either in early June or before August. The console itself should go on sale in the Christmas season of 2020.
