If the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and the economic crisis do not affect the launch of sales at the end of this year of the Xbox Series X, then the best shooter Halo: Infinite will contribute to the sales of this new console.

Microsoft's PR machine has already started working: detailed information about the "iron" of Phil Spencer's parallelepiped was announced, and the IT giant's partners presented the toy line for Infinite. However, it is still unclear the most important thing - what is there with the plot? This is a sore point for a series that has clearly lost its way under the tutelage of 343 Industries.
The Halo franchise is a perfect example of what goes wrong in the entertainment industry. Starting life as a strategy and Mac exclusive, the series came under the control of Microsoft, which sought to turn the story of Spartan John - 117 into a multimedia RAM that would knock down the hubris of Sony. Thanks to Bungie, players got a truly revolutionary shooter that changed the rules of the game on the console market and simultaneously pushed the industry forward.
At the same time, the developers managed to stay on course for a long time. Yes, there were books and comics, but they complemented the ENT, while the plot outline of the main games was simple and clear to the mass player.
But over time, the series has developed a tradition of hiding parts of the main product's plot in additional books and comics. Just remember the movie "Star wars: Revenge of the Sith", which did not explain how Anakin Skywalker got a scar on his face. Or how exactly Chancellor Palpatine was captured by General grievous, and why the latter constantly coughed. All this was offered to learn from comics, books and a cartoon by Gendy Tartakovsky.
The volume of additional works gradually increased, but the scale of the disaster increased after the departure of Bungie, when the Studio 343 Industries was formed. It was at this point that marketing finally began to dominate the story, which at the same time became overly complicated. Now the series was completely controlled by Microsoft, and this happened at the moment when the company began to lose ground.
Halo 4 was a great debut project of the new Studio, but at the same time it became a clear demonstration of errors. The emphasis on graphics is at the expense of artificial intelligence and the scale of levels. An attempt to shake up multiplayer in the age of Call of Duty-at the expense of basic principles.
And, of course, the plot. The developers on the one hand decided to move the universe forward and presented a luxurious production with beautiful animation and emotional scenes, but on the other - they were afraid to lose the audience. The result was what many like to call a sub-remake. And this is also one of the characteristics of the modern entertainment industry. You could see it again in "Star wars": when you take a proven formula and carefully repeat it, adding small ruffles in an attempt to mask the Foundation and put pressure on the nostalgia.
And while Halo 4 doesn't look like a complete carbon copy of Combat Evolved, the borrowings are obvious. The developers still tried to promote their ideas. And it is not the prometheans, whom the authors gave birth to literally in pain. We're talking about the story of John 117. In Bungie games, the main character rarely showed emotion and barely spoke, apart from his relationship with the AI Cortana. In 343 Industries decided to change this by humanizing the protagonist, who has always been a tool in the hands of the United Nations Space Command, created initially to suppress riots on remote worlds.
At the very beginning of the game, it turns out that Cortana's service life has come to an end, which is why she literally begins to go crazy. Parallel to this is another line - the obsolescence of John himself. Players are shown a new generation of Spartans: instead of children stolen from their parents, who were subjected to torture and inhumane experiments, ordinary soldiers came, who were "pumped"...
