Bioderma Sébium Sérum - Review

Hello, today I am reviewing Bioderma Sebium Serum for you. Last year my skin was not doing so great and I was struggling with blemishes and nothing seems to be working on them. Finally, I gave up and visited a dermatologist. She recommended Bioderma Sebium Serum to me and this took care of all the issues and since then I have been using this on and off. Whenever a pesky little pimple comes up I use this and it's taken care of.

The serum is a smoothing and purifying skin renovator concentrate for combination or oily skin with persistent blemishes. This keratolytic care corrects existing blemishes, smoothes and refines the skin texture through a gentle peeling effect. It evens out irregular contours and re-establishes the skin's natural radiance. Sébium Sérum, associated with the exclusive patented Fluidactiv complex which regulates and stabilizes the quality of sebum and prevents the appearance of blemishes, contains two dermatological active ingredients: glycolic acid which smoothes and purifies, and D-Panthenol which intensely soothes. Its innovative gel-type texture is well tolerated.

The ingredient list is rather short with lots of soothing components, to ameliorate the irritations coming from AHA:

One of the mysteries is the concentration of glycolic acid in this product. The commercial representatives claimed that it is 15%, which is quite strong and not suitable for everyone. The high concentration of panthenol and oligosaccharides has a regenerative function and is very beneficial for the skin.

It is clear and has a very runny consistency (almost watery). It is recommended to apply it after cleansing and toning. After applying this product let it sit for 1-2 minutes and then you can apply your regular moisturizer. It is not recommended to wear a Sebium Serum during the day, because it contains glycolic acid and glycolic acid is photosensitive, which means it can cause spots if you go out in the sun. So it is better to apply it during the night, so your skin can recover better. But during the day you should use a face cream or fluid with a high SPF protection of 30 or more.

When I apply this product it gives a very cooling effect and once it gets absorbed I get a slight stretchy feel for ~10 minutes. Application on any active acne or open lesions causes a stinging sensation. It does not get absorbed into my skin and sits on top of the skin in a layer. While applying I have to be careful to keep my hair tied back or else my hair tends to stick to my face with the gel. Unfortunately, the gel causes my cheeks to stick to my bedding.

If my skin is acting funny and I get those tiny bumps because of hot and humid weather then I use this all over my face on alternate days for a week or two and this does the job for me. Otherwise, I use this as a spot treatment for occasional breakouts. I thought that this would dry out my skin but surprisingly it has not dried out my skin at all.

Bioderma Sébium Sérum is, as it claims, a mild peeling gel. It can be effective for getting rid of light hyperpigmentation and uneven skin texture. Using it continuously for a long time will give smooth skin, prevent blackheads and reduce hyperpigmentation through its mild peeling effect. Since it has a mild peeling effect, it will not give visible results for darker hyperpigmentation.
