Shayna Baszler on biting Becky Lynch and how no fans WrestleMania opens up creative possibilities

Shayna #Baszler is preparing to face Becky Lynch in what will be the most unique WrestleMania in WWE history. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, WrestleMania 36 will now be held without an audience at the WWE Performance Center (as well as some undisclosed locations) across two nights on April 4th and 5th. Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Baszler explained that while it's not the WrestleMania any of us could have envisioned, the current situation is giving WWE Superstars the opportunity to get more creative with their matches. "It opens up a bunch of possibilities that nobody would have even thought of if it wasn't this way," Baszler said. "It's going to be interesting to see how creative people get. "It's obviously going to be very different and not just because there's no audience but this has never been done and now we're free to be as creative as we want with this stuff. "I think there is kind of a buzz about, you know, 'what's this going to be like?' I think there's a different sort of excitement to it." With sporting events across the world cancelled and TV and movie sets shut down, Baszler says the world needs WrestleMania more than ever now, if just to take their minds off things for a couple of hours. "I think to give a couple days where people can sit and talk about like, the good guy and the bad guy and who they're cheering for, it's something else to talk about," she said. "It's kind of the most important time for us right now. The world needs it, you know, just as a mental reprieve." Last month Baszler shocked #WWE fans when she attacked WrestleMania opponent Becky Lynch on Raw, biting her on the neck. The moment ended up going viral, which was exactly the reaction Baszler was looking for. "If I was to just come out there and beat Becky up like I did to everyone during the Survivor Series build everyone would have been like, 'oh there's Shayna doing that thing again,'" Baszler explained. "I knew I had to do something to turn everyone's heads and it got everyone talking and I think it got a lot more attention than if I had just done the usual thing. "So no press is bad press," she added. "Everybody was watching and everybody saw that clip, even if they didn't see it live, so it did exactly what it needed to." While Lynch has been on a hot streak ever since she beat Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair in the main event of WrestleMania last year, Baszler says she poses a unique challenge for Lynch. "You'd be hard-pressed to find any other #woman in the world that wrestles like I do," Baszler said. "I just bring a whole different format that hasn't been seen before. "And honestly I don't think the world was ready for a wrestler like me in the women's division until now. "Just my in-ring style, I bring something that #nobody has seen for ages and that brings a whole different sort of unpredictability." And as for who's next, Baszler isn't looking past Lynch yet but she does see the potential for a great feud with one half of the current Women's Tag Team Champion's, Asuka. "My entire time in NXT, I always said that (Asuka) was a dream match of mine," Baszler said. "It has more to do with our lineage, our respective lineage in pro wrestling is very similar. "I think if we faced each other we could show some things that nobody else could do," she added. "Just based on the fact that we have similar upbringings in the sport."
