Hello, gorgeous people! I’m always on the hunt for a good eye cream, especially to use in the daytime. At night, I’m less picky - the results are important, but the feel - not so much. But for the day, it has to be light and not feel greasy. Thankfully, the Korean beauty market has plenty of options, with new ones being constantly added.
Benton is one of my favorite brands. So far, I haven’t tried anything of theirs that I didn’t like [more Benton reviews will be added soon]. One of their new products is Benton Fermentation Eye Cream.
I've bought a deluxe sample of 10ml on YesStyle. It can be purchased apart or in a travel size set from Benton. Expect more reviews soon!
This cream comes in a black squeezable tube with a silver cap. The tube has a small nozzle to dispense out the product. The eye cream has a thick creamy formula that has white color and typical Korean skincare products smell which is light and refreshing. The packaging includes all essential information from ingredients to cautions.
As you can see, the safety of Benton Fermentation Eye Cream ingredients is around 1 to 2. The hazard score key is taken from the EWG standard, a non-profit environmental organization that presents safe ingredients through their websites. They rank from 0 to 10, so the safety is guaranteed unless you have allergies to certain ingredients. You can read my manifest about EWG here.
IMHO, I trust CIR (Cosmetics Ingredients Review) more than EWG; EWG often loading incorrect data, making us unable to get really accurate information.
If you know the rule 5 top ingredients, you also can see that from galactomyces ferment filtrate to glycerin are the materials with the highest percentage in a product. Water is the 8th, so from here, the conclusion is this product is made more solid than a moisturizer.
I want to highlight some of their claimed-so-good-ingredients here:
- Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate: Claimed could against antiaging. But here is the shocking news: I still haven't found any study to support this yet. In Truth In Aging, the only clinical study was done by P&G, (the owner of SK-II, and yes, they do have galactomyces ferment as one of the ingredients. That said, there is a study that proofed galactomyces ferment filtrate can improve skin in keratinization, pores, sebum excretion, brightness, and acne.
- Bifida Ferment Lysate: It also has a different name called Bifidobacterium longum lysate, a probiotic claimed to work as a DNA repair agent when applied topically. For short, it also could be found in yogurt. So far The Futurederm claimed this has not been researched for study yet (for skincare sake), but I find that B. lactis is good for the enhancement of host immunity, has an effect against E.coli and other pathogens, and has may benefit for rosacea and acne sufferer.
- Ceramides: It has a good benefit for dry and very dry skin because it may help with moisture retention, also maybe your alternative to look at when you need something for fighting fine lines.
- Sodium Hyaluronate. More fondly known as Hyaluronic Acid (HA). It's a huge polymer (big molecule from repeated subunits) found in the skin that acts as a sponge helping the skin to hold onto water, being plump and elastic. HA is famous for its crazy water holding capacity as it can bind up to 1000 times its own weight in water.
- Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract. Aloe is a great moisturizer and has several anti-inflammatory & antibacterial components. It is also known for wound healing capabilities.
My point of view - Galactomyces ferment filtrate and Bifida ferment filtrate are 2 cosmetic ingredients that still need to look for studies related to its effects with antiaging; meanwhile, ceramide has a good effect on fine lines and wrinkle but it is on the 14th from the ingredients list. This product is a good thing if you have dry skin under eyes.
My verdict - The first thing I notice about this eye cream is its texture which is thick and intensely creamy. I personally love a creamy eye cream; I find them so much more hydrating than a light cream or eye gel. I guess it’s because the skin under my eyes calls out for a tonne of moisture and I must say that Benton’s fermented eye cream quickly hydrates and the hydration is long-lasting. Especially in this cold weather, a hydrating eye cream is much needed. The product absorbs rapidly with very minimal stickiness, a little goes a long way too. My skin feels immediately soft, silky and ready for my under-eye makeup. I’m nonplussed by the scent which doesn’t smell of much to me, but I’m not looking for a scent in my eye cream, I’m looking for active ingredients that work!
After a month of using Benton’s fermented eye cream, it has definitely become a favorite of mine. My slight fine lines have reduced, owed to the fact that they have been so thoroughly hydrated. I still like to use the essence in the morning underneath Benton’s fermented eye cream, to get that extra brightening. And that’s the beauty of Korean skincare – you get to layer these fantastic products in accordance with your skin’s needs.
