The charming Italian figure skater Nicole Della Monica performs in pair skating with Matteo Guarise. They are three-time Italian Champions and bronze medalists at the winter Universiade. I talked to Nicole and learned her story of appearing on the ice, what her programs of this season are dedicated to, and what the figure skater enjoys in her free time.
- You have very interesting programs, you seem to tell a story. Tell us, please, what are your programs in this season about? How did you create them?
- We always try to find something that suits us, with which we can give emotions to the audience. This season we decided to build our short program with Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte and we chose together the music from the movie «50 shades of grey», we wanted to add some sexuality to our skating. For the free program we have been helped by Massimo Scali. He proposed the first piece of our free, while we proposed the second one, and they sound good together. The lyrics talk about the universe and we try to be more abstract than to express a real story. The quote that we like most of it, is saying: "how rare and beautiful it truly is that we exist", and we got inspiration from this.
- How did you fall in love with figure skating and made a pair with your partner?
- I was just a little girl and my dad used to go skating in public sessions with my brother until that one day when he brought me with him. I just couldn’t help falling in love with this sport. I started to skate with Matteo after being away from the ice rink for one year, because I wanted to stop. But his coach convinced me to have a try out and here we are now. So, you can imagine how it did go by yourself 😃
- Books and literary characters that impressed you?
- I love science fiction in general, so I am a super fan of every kind of book or saga about it.
- Your favorite movies and actors.
- We could talk about movies like forever! Hahaha just joking, but I love watching movies so bad! As for the books, I love science fiction, I didn’t miss one of the Harry Potter’s nor Marvel’s. But I am a girl so I also love romanticism and music. One of my favourite movies is definitely «Moulin Rouge». I don’t really like movies about violence and definitely not horrors! I admire actors like Johnny Depp, Morgan Freeman, Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman and many others.
- Your favorite dish. Maybe, you create culinary dishes yourself?
- The thing I want to eat so bad, when I come back from travels, is pizza, so I would say it’s my favourite dish. I love to cook at home, I like to bake cakes and cookies as well as cooking some risotto!!!
- The most interesting journey in your life?
- The one that I haven’t done yet 😉
- Do you communicate with Carolina Costner? How is she now? Will she return in sports?
- I see Carolina here and there during shows or sport events, but in this moment she is recovering from a hip surgery. So, I don’t know which are her plans about sport.
