Weight and dimensions of the orbital sander
For the most part, they have a weight of 1.0 to 2.5 kg, which is quite acceptable for a sufficiently long work.
There are, of course, for “finished” professionals (I write with great respect) and mini orbital grinding machines, with which you can even cut caries on a tooth, you could see them in various Western car repair videos, but this is not our topic, although Possession of such devices will add respect to your customers uniquely.
Used abrasive consumables
First of all, these are of course abrasive velo mugs and other gadgets for more efficient work with a grinding machine about which are slightly lower.
Velcro abrasive mugs produce many well-known and not very well-known companies (you can read in the Technical section). To choose what you need, you will have to try different options. Each mechanic has his own priorities, so you should listen to the experts, but of course, you will have to make the choice yourself, based on your experience and preferences.
I think that the disagreement in opinions is most likely due to the fact that there are fakes of well-known brands on the market, which ultimately leads to negative reviews of a particular manufacturing company.
Therefore, when buying abrasive cups for the first time, do not take a lot at once, but take only 3-5 cups of a certain brand from the same seller for a sample only.
Basically, of course, the masters have complaints about the rapid failure of an abrasive, which ultimately affects the speed and quality of work. Sometimes, of course, the mechanicsthemselves are to blame for not drying the applied material, whether it be primer, putty, or varnish.
A small hint for beginners: experienced specialists certainly know, to begin grinding freshly applied putty follows the old sandpaper, as on the surface of this putty resins are collected during the curing process, which clog up the abrasive sandpaper, making it impossible to process the surface qualitatively. I
t begins to scratch the surface with coked dust particles, forming deep, ugly scratches that can be removed only by deeper grinding.
And now about the things, which will help to modernize the work with the grinder, this is the use of a “sandwich” - as some mechanics call a layer of paralon with a sticky tape, which is very simply placed between the sole and the abrasive circle, another name - “adapter” or a soft substrate.
What is this device for? Yes, everything is simple, when you grind the surface with an orbital machine, for example, a hood, it can have all kinds of edges and other irregularities.
So, when we begin to grind this hood with a grinder, if we do this without a soft substrate, then we wipe the hard or flat sole of the orbital machine to iron in the places of these very ribs. Using the same soft substrate, we can more successfully control this process.
And now a few tips on maintaining an orbital sander:
If she works for you as insane for several hours a day, then regular prevention will be very useful for her.
The first reason for the regular disassembly and prevention is the appearance of an unusual sound during operation of the machine.
Be it a whistle, a squeak, or some shark sounds. So it is time to disassemble your orbital grinding machine and finally see what is inside it!
And inside you will find several thrust bearings bearing the main burden of load during operation. Well, if they are protected by special anthers - this is an indicator of the quality of the tool.
If you have an unknown sculptor in your hands, bought for ridiculous money in the local market, then most likely the bearings will be clogged with coked dust, which should be removed, taking care not to damage the surfaces. For these purposes, I recommend using a hard brush and solvent.
After removing the coked deposits, before assembling the orbital sander, all bearings should be lubricated with engine oil.
Soles for orbitals are replaceable and sold separately; during operation, hooks of the velo on the sole of the machine are erased and cease to stick tightly to abrasive cups.
Therefore, after some time, for someone six months, for someone three, but, you have to change the sole of the orbital machine. You will see this for yourself when the abrasive circle will simply fly off the sole at the beginning of rotation, or simply begin to peel off its edges.
By the way, the deformation of velo hooks is mainly due to the breakdown of the mechanics themselves, tested by their own experience ... yes, I am also not perfect ... a sad exhalation.
I will tell you the “terrible secret” - when we glue the abrasive circle to the sole, sometimes we do not keep the exact gluing, but move the circle a couple of millimeters to the side, unintentionally ... and the hooks of the stickers are uncovered ...
This is where the “TERRIBLE!” Comes about - the hooks of the sole that are not covered with a circle rub at a tremendous speed on the surface to be machined and are simply ground off; later on, they are unable to hook the abrasive circle.
And in conclusion.
Do not refuse to buy an orbital sander from a simple sense of economy!
Handles you do not polish! And then, if you are a master in the soul and a person with hands growing from the right place, then it will be useful to you more than once, at least in the country, for sanding wooden surfaces when building or repairing a house or any other outbuilding.
