Movies in January: What to Look Out for in Cinema in the Second Half of the Month

In the cinema industry, January is a traditionally boring month. However, Time Out carefully studied the prospects of the cinema distribution for the beginning of the year and found some intriguing films.

The Lighthouse, release date: January 16

An island near New England. Ephraim Winslow gets the job as an assistant of a lighthouse keeper, but Thomas Wake, this lame despicable lighthouse keeper, poisons the guy's life. Cast: Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson. Director: Robert Eggers, who made The Witch, a wonderful production. The film won FIPRESCI Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Specials, release date: January 16

The Specials is a sad and touching story, which quite humorously tells about major issues shared by both France and Russia. It was made by Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano, directors of The Intouchables — if this doesn't make you want to watch it, what will?

Bad Boys for Life, release date: January 23

Our old (in every sense) friends Burnett and Lowrey are back together again to escape the Albanian killer. The killer is quite displeased with the guys for killing his brother. Moreover, he is a real professional, so our heroes will have a rough time. The cast is the same: Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

Underwater, release date: January 23

The plot of the film is quite a cliché: a crew of aquatic researchers dives in the ocean, but everything goes south from the beginning, and then a strange monster is found in the depth. Nevertheless, Underwater has a good cast (Kristen Stewart, Vincent Cassel, T.J. Miller) and a potential to be a good thriller.
