Have you, guys, ever heard of the band called STARSET? I never did until recently and here's actually what I personally think of their music.
It's all started with the ad in YouTube (you can still find it there, I guess), where I was watching something and after the first time listening I caught myself on a feeling like I know this band for a really long time. Ad said STARSET has a Russian tour in 2020, my city included. I was going to check out their music right after I finished watching the video, but, you know, when it comes to YouTube you can't just stop whenever you want.
And so I forgot until I saw that ad once again after a few days. One way or another, it took like 3 times to the commercial to actually make me stop and listen to the band, so I finally did.
What it was like?
Well, at some point I felt like I'm thirteen. I came to that mention state when you want to mean something and feel strong enough to change the world, like you have the power. "Why thirteen?", you may ask. Just because about this age I started to realize what kind of music is my cup of tea.
After getting some nostalgia, I started to partly recognize other popular rock band's styles. There was, first of all, a bit of old Linkin Park songs (not them, of course, but the motives). When it comes to electronic music, I remembered me going to Dead by April concert (which, by the way, was exactly where STARSET is going to play). There was something else that I just couldn't describe then and still can't.
Completed with comparing their style with every band I've ever herd before, started to just feel STARSET's style and was captured by it! When you give all of yourself to the music, you feel yourself being part of some other society. Part of future as if you were travelling on the spaceship and now got to some other planet, where everything is weird and a bit belligerent. I began imagining bizarre pictures of glowing towers, people with beautiful physical appearance and ugliest souls. Something like "Blade Runner 2049". And in that world I felt myself that person who is going to save everyone.
One more word of the audio tracks of STARSET: some of them have long intros and outros, connecting songs in the album, so maybe shuffle button may spoil you all the fun. Their last album may inspirit your inside rebellion against what is going on all around.
The verdict is if you are rock music person and addicted to the whole space travelling idea, you will like the band. The music made very well, it's pleasant to ears to hear, BUT I found it hard to remember the band. After turning them off I couldn't remember any of the songs I've listen. I knew for sure I would recognize the band if hear them accidentally. Is it enought? Well, you say.
