Effect of the date of birth on personal characteristics

Fact that reliable and reliable data on the confirmation or denial of the influence of the date of birth on the personal characteristics of people does not exist. On the one hand, there are astrological descriptions of types of people on zodiacal signs and popular representations about them, but astrology at present is not considered as a science, on the other hand, there are very small quantity of empirical researches, both domestic and foreign, showing dependence of personal features on date of birth.

The hypothesis as a whole was confirmed - introverts born in even months to a greater extent, and in odd months - extroverts. This pattern is more pronounced in women than in men.

The results on the scale of neuroticism turned out to be more contradictory. The mixed sample revealed the dependence of the level of neuroticism on the date of birth: the most neurotic - Pisces, Scorpion, Cancer, and Aries, emotionally stable - Gemini, Libra, Aquarius. The parity oddness factor of the month of birth has a greater influence on the variation of extraversion, and the factor of sex - on the variation of neuroticism.

The reaction of academic science to this article was predictable. A number of scientists rechecked the facts stated in the article and did not receive confirmation.

The analysis of the results obtained in the general sample practically did not give anything. Comparison of average scores on the Student's t-criterion revealed significant differences in extraversion between Virgoes and Lions, and in neuroticism - between Cancer and Scorpions.

Data for female and male samples separately showed more differences. Girls from Taurus, Virgo, Aquarius are more extroverted and Lions and Capricorn are more introverted. As for neuroticism, the girls Taurus, Lions, Scorpions are emotionally stable, and Aries, Cancer, Libra are neurotic. Aries, Lions, Scorpions, Aquarius, and Taurus are emotionally stable among young men.

In personality theory, there are three super features:

1) E (extraversion - introversion);

2) N (neuroticism - emotional stability);

3) P (psychotism - Super-Ego power)

The sample was formed of students of 1-5 years of full-time and part-time education. Data on typological personal properties were taken from the students' personal files, and by date of birth, the subjects were divided into 12 groups by date of birth.

To determine the effect of the date of birth on personality traits, a parametric criterion, the one-factor dispersion analysis (ANOVA).

Further, to indicate the date (month) of birth, the symbols of zodiac signs were used, because this is how the dates of birth were indicated in the studies described above, which allows us to compare the data of our sample with the data obtained earlier.

A more detailed intergroup analysis revealed that the differences between the extreme values of extraversion at the trend level are significant only for men (Virgo peak compared to Aquarius, p=0.096), for the general sample and in the female sub-sample are insignificant - within the range of 1-1.5 points.

Aries women have more extroverts than women of other signs. In men, the Virgins and Sagittarians are the most extroverted, while Aquarius is the least extroverted.

Women's level of neuroticism varies less from month to month and the differences in male sub-samples are stronger, as research shows.

The impact of the date of birth on male neuroticism was revealed in this sample, and statistically significant differences in the degree of neuroticism between the individual months of birth in both the general sample and women were also revealed.

It should be noted that the zodiac signs born in some months have higher values of neuroticism in both men and women; some - Sagittarius and Capricorn - are lower. These results coincide with the data in which Cancer neuroticism is shown as one of the highest, and Sagittarius and Capricorn as low.

The date of birth has a significant impact on the psychotism of the entire sample (F=1.86; p=0.042) and women (F=1.93; p=0.034). The impact of the date of birth on psychotism is more pronounced than on extraversion (higher F-criteria values). Differences in indicators between different months of birth exist and reach a difference of 2 points in the entire sample and up to 4 points in the sex sub-samples.

The differences between the extreme values of psychotism are significant in men at 5% level. Virgo signs have higher values, and Taurus and Sagittarius signs have lower values of psychotism in both men and women.

Summing up, it should be noted that, strange as it may seem, people born in different months differ in the level of typological personality traits. The influence of the date of birth is more evident at the level of neuroticism and psychotism.

As for the explanations of the revealed regularities, they lie outside the limits of psychology and, accordingly, outside the limits of this work, and are more determined by physical and biochemical factors, namely, the influence of cosmic factors on the development of an individual in the prenatal period. The main factor, most likely, is solar activity in different months, which affects the physiological processes and psychophysiological characteristics of pregnant women. For example, there are data on the influence of solar activity, geomagnetic activity, vitamin levels, etc. on the course of pregnancy.

Due to the fact that neurophysiological peculiarities are the basis of personal features (super features) and that they are genetically determined, a cause-and-effect relationship is quite plausible: solar activity in different months affects the psychophysiological processes of women's pregnancy, which affects the formation of various congenital psychophysiological features of the fetus, which leads to subsequent small, but differences in the personal features of people in the postnatal period.
