Sitting Or Squatting?

Hello, friends!

Elderly people or people who travel a lot to distant villages must have seen it: a squat latrine.

One hole in the floor and two grab handles on the right and left sides of the wall to facilitate squatting. Your feet are placed on a platform and your knees are raised above your hips, which creates a natural “squatting” position.

It’s exactly how we used to emty our bowels before the invention of the modern throne loo.

Nobody would come up with an idea of staying here longer than necessary!

Before the modern toilet was created for luxury in Western civilization, it was normal for people to do their business in a squat.

This position actually helped to avoid many health problems!

The invention of a comfortable toilet seat also created the myth that you should take time with this process.

Therefore, while people do their business, among other things they smoke, talk on the phone, read or play around with their smartphone. Time seems to stand still when you are in the bathroom.

Due to the longer sitting we try to push out portions of bowel movements by pressing. And this can also lead to various physical problems in the long run.

The bowel movement is actually an automatic process, provided that the fiber intake and fluid intake are in a balanced relationship.

In this case, the anorectal opens involuntarily as soon as we feel strong urge to emtyvour bowels. As soon as youvare dobe, you should leave the toilet and wait until you feel the urge again.

But now to the right seating position on the toilet.

The modern toilet throne was created in western civilization for relaxation and luxury.

However, not only the time we now spend in the toilet, but also the sitting position is anything but healthy when it comes to the bowel movement.

Here are the problems you may experience if you are sitting on the throne (with your legs usually bent at a 90° angle):

  • constipation,
  • hemorrhoids (through effort to extract the stool),
  • intestinal diseases (cancer from accumulated fecal matter, intestinal polyps, inflammation),
  • urinary difficulties / infections in women or incontinence,
  • pelvic floor problems (the lower part of the colon presses on the uterus),
  • etc.

Squatting or sitting - what's the difference?

The main difference between the squat position and the sitting position in that the angle between the upper body and thighs is sharpened when you squat down.

This makes the pelvic floor much more relaxed. Since the intestine is straight in this position, emptying is facilitated.

In the sitting position, however, the pelvic floor muscle is kinked resulting in that the emptying of the intestine is difficult.

The squat position thus allows the body to completely relax the intestine.

There are special devices adapted to toilets in the Western world.

However, you can also achieve a similar position by using a stool placed in front of the toilet.

To do this, you should place your legs a little farther apart, with your upper body sliding slightly downwards, tilting your upper body slightly forward as you do your business.

The angle between your upper body and your legs is then reduces to 35 ° instead of the original 90 °.

Well, what do you think?

Do you want to give it a try?

I highly recommend it, though, of course, a stool next to the toilet looks a bit funny=)

But thus you can do yourself and your body something good in a very simple way.

And I am sure that you will notice a big difference.

Maybe you already have experience with this toilet position, then I'm looking forward to your comments!

Best wishes,

and see you soon!
