Yet she did not feel the panic that Freddy had in her possession.
- Look! - Suddenly he cried out, squeezing her hand to pain. - Look!
His cry merged with the scream of the beholder:
- Pirates!
- So your dream came true," Erin whispered with a slightly shaking voice, noticing the mercenary's quarters jumping out of her eyes.
River immediately rushed to the side: the ship appeared on the horizon, moving at great speed in their direction. But it wasn't the worst thing, because it was followed by a giant black cloud. "The storm!
The mercenary's mind suggested that this was hardly a coincidence, and she was well aware of who could set it up. Probably the Shadow Council decided to throw all the forces into battle. And he had a lot of them.
After a few moments, the ship was hit by a hurricane wind that knocked it down. Sylvia threw herself into the cabin and returned with a weapon. River kept looking at the approaching enemy, squeezing the handle of the sword hanging from her belt in her cold hand. The sailors hurried down the sails without risking any further sailing, and the captain ran up to Erin and urged her to hide in the hold. She refused.
- What was going on?
The dark-haired hired woman cursed quietly when she heard the question.
- What's going on? - The girl chose her as the victim and demanded an answer. She did not seem to be fully aware of the danger. River could have explained to her that she was separated from her death in a matter of minutes, but she wouldn't have done so. Instead, clinging to a rope tied to a mast with one hand, she drew a witch with the other.
- Don't go far," she said. - If anything happens, jump into the water and try to sail as far away as possible. Understand?
Erin humbly nodded. She didn't want to argue at all. Especially now.
River pulled out the sword and began to wait for an imminent attack. In her head wandered not too cheerful thoughts, but she drove them away. It started raining, and together with the piercing wind, rocking the ship, it caused a lot of inconveniences. As the weather had been hot for the last two days, River had taken off her jacket and was now frozen in one thin shirt. Her back was warmed by Erin, who was holding on to her waistband so as not to fall on the slippery deck. She must have been colder.
- Are we going to die? - Erin's howling voice seemed weak through the wind, and the mercenary could hardly hear it. She probably waited for comfort, but River didn't like to lie, especially in situations like this.
The storm was intensifying. The thunder was thundering, and the lightning was sparkling right above her head. In their deadly pale light, the pirates' ship continued to rush on the waves.
- Are you going to fight them? - Sylvia shouted, anxiously looking at River and the thieves coming in.
- I wouldn't want that to happen," River replied, trying to block out the noise of the storm, "but it's not up to me.
The situation was bad: a battle in this weather was a suicide. River threw wet hair off her forehead and looked through the rain at the pirates. He was right there when suddenly lightning struck where the steering wheel was. The wretched guy splashed his hands and fell down, and the ship left without control and without losing its course crashed into the board near which River was located. "Siona seems to have changed her mind with spells. The water rushed into the holds, and Erin was horrified to imagine what would have happened if she had listened to the captain. The people, who had gone mad with fear, jumped into the raging waves without knowing anything anymore. Barely balanced, River shouted to Sylvia:
- Get off the ship!
- And you?
- Naturally, River was the last person who wanted to fight the pirates alone, but she had to find proof of her guesses.
She saw Sylvia hesitating, and smiled. "Doubts my word. Oh, she never trusted me. However, the blonde mercenary did not dare to argue, so grabbing a bunch of stunned Freddy, was already in the water with him a few seconds later.
- Jump after them," River's words to Erin came at the time of the lull storm, but the girl couldn't hear them. Or she didn't want to hear it. River didn't repeat it and just threw Erin down in Sylvia's arms. Erin squealed, but the flight was short-lived, and the squeal was quickly interrupted when her head was underwater. After making sure she was okay, and Sylvia and her men sailed safely from the sinking ships, River, barely balancing on the collapsing deck, jumped onto a pirate ship. There was nothing there, but the mercenary's sharp eyes caught the robber, the dark-skinned man. He was also going to leave the ship.
