Why does a cat bite its kittens and how to react

Cat psychology is not fully understood by humans, and probably this animal is not fully understood, especially if the cat has offspring.

After giving birth, a pet may start behaving unusually: running around the apartment, beating and biting her offspring.

The owners, respectively, do not know how to behave, sound the alarm or treat it calmly. What happens to the cat?

If a cat beats or bites its kittens, it doesn't mean it hurts them! This is raising a young cat.

Bite as a parenting method

A cat's mother doesn't have much time to pass on all her knowledge to her children, so she tries to do it as quickly as possible. This rush has its roots when cats lived in the wild and their offspring had to survive.

If a cat bites its kittens, but there are no bite marks on the skin, it means that everything is fine, do not worry. During training, when a kitten starts to meow, the cat stops biting her, it's a signal to her that her kitten has mastered everything.

Calm her down and keep her safe

In some moments, people are like animals, for example, to keep them out of danger, my mother would do anything.

A human mother can slap her fidget a couple of times to calm her down, and a cat mother will either bite or paw her, but she won't hurt her baby.

In this way, the cat's mother tries to punish her kitten and show that she can't do this.

She may hit with her paw or bite the top of her neck in the following cases:

  1. if the kitten is climbing out of the nest and the cat thinks it's too early to do so;
  2. If a kitten is very spoiled, she will run around the house without noticing anything;
  3. if the kitten is climbing into the paws of danger, such as on a balcony from which she may fall;
  4. if the cat tries to sleep and the kitten is trying to stop her from playing.

Hunting skills

When the kittens are ready, the cat's mother will start teaching them how to hunt. She can teach kittens a lesson like this:

With her front paws, the cat will grab one baby and with her hind paws will start beating him, biting and licking him in between. Thus, it shows how to behave with the prey.

After a couple of days, you can see how the kittens will play with each other the same scripts shown by the cat mom.

Toilet training

Raised cats will never go to the toilet where they have to, they always need to go only in specially designated places, in trays.

When babies grow up, the mother gives them this experience and shows them where to go to the toilet. If your kitten doesn't understand, she may not bite or paw her very hard. Educates her!

Games

If you look at a cat's mother with her kittens from the outside, you'd think she was just playing with them. But it's not quite so. A cat will stretch kitten's muscles by gently biting all over her body, helping her to develop.

In order not to worry about her offspring, she will pass on all her knowledge and skills to her children in a short period of time so that they can survive when they grow up and become independent.

Therefore, "for the purpose of education" she can beat them with her paw and even bite them.

However, when the owner sees this picture, he shouldn't worry about it, because it's how the cat takes care of itself.
