Books I read in June 2019

1. Jo Nesbø - "Knife"

Evaluation: 5 Limitations: No. Genre: Detective, Scandinavian noir

It's been a while since we had Harry Hole. The Norwegian master of detectives published several books without his participation, and I, sinfully, believed that the series is already finished. The last book was... well, positive or something. But no, there is a new one. Which definitely made me happy and... upset? Why did you upset me? Because of the plot. I will not a spoiler - read for yourself. Why did you make me happy? Very well written. And the main thing - now the series about Hole will be unambiguously continued. So, new interesting stories of the author, which I can refer to their favorite detectives.

Conclusion: Good book. But if this is the first in the series about Harry Hole for you, it is better to start with something else. "Snowman" or "Leopard

2. A. Ivanov - "The Food Block"

Evaluation: 5

Limitations: No.

Genre: history, USSR

Slowly, slowly, Alexei Isayev became for me the most interesting writer who writes in Russian right now. Yes, I love the early Akunin or Polyakov and reread them with pleasure, but it is Ivanov who writes a lot, juicily and interestingly. Although I confess, I love his historical things like "Tobol", "Gold of the Rebel" or "Heart of Parma" much more than his modern passion for dengerology. But he's a master and he writes in such a way that he doesn't lose it. He can :-)))))) This time it takes us to a pioneer camp in 1980. And though children's fears and a spline of some on duty enters for us certain vampire system. I have never been to pioneer camps in the USSR, but personally I was interested. And even prompted me to write one post, which I hope will be published this week.

Conclusion: An interesting book.

3. H. Cobain - Don't let go

Evaluation: 5

Limitations: No.

Genre: Detective

Harlan Cobain, for me personally, is a sign of detective quality. By taking his book you can be sure that it is interesting. And not only the series about Myron Bolitar, but also simple individual stories or novels. A great master. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that I read his new creation. A certain detective with a wonderful combination of the name of Napoleon "Nap" Dumas becomes closer to the solution of the accident 15 years ago, in which his twin brother died, and his (Napa) girl disappeared without a trace. He begins to unwind the ball...

Conclusion: As always - interesting detectives at Koben.

4. D. Connally - "Whispering"

Evaluation: 4

Limitations: No.

Genre: Detective

Very cool on the mixture and psychological experiences of detective drama from the life of detective Chali Parker eventually turned into some kind of mystical thriller. And the books are very heterogeneous. There are successful, there are less good. This is, perhaps, quite successful. Or, let's just say, without much effort. More or less everything is realistic, except for the artifact itself...:-) The plot is simple - Charlie Parker, who finally got his detective's license back, hires the father of an Iraqi veteran, who committed suicide out of the blue. Charlie begins to ask questions, and soon he urgently needed his faithful friends Luis and Angel.

Conclusion: Not the best, but not the worst book in the series.

5. D. Deaver - The Garden of Beasts

Evaluation: 4

Limitations: No.

Genre: Detective, history

Another American master detective. I love Jeffrey Deaver for his diversity. After all, he writes an excellent series (about Lincoln Rhyme and his redheaded girlfriend), good individual novels and even a book about Bond. Always quite qualitatively. And then he decided to try his hand at a historical novel. The main character here is Paul Schumann - an American of German origin, a veteran of the First World War, and also a super killer of the mafia. His beruts are red-handed and offer an alternative - an electric chair or a special assignment. He, naturally, chooses the second one. The point is that he has to get into Nazi Berlin, which hosts the Summer Olympics and destroy one important bonus. Whether or not you will find out by reading the book.

In general, it is interesting. Deaver is a great writer in general. And the story, and the characters he always bright. And even (here, however, with varying success), he tried to understand in those times. But I have mixed feelings from reading. In some places, it was very good, and in some places I didn't like it very much. But in general - quite curious

Conclusion: Not the best book of the author, but everything is of high quality

6. D. Kolpakidi, A. Prokhorov - "KGB: ACCEPTED LIKVIDIRATE. Special operations of Soviet security services 1918–1941"

Evaluation: 5

Limitations: No.

Genre: History, Intelligence Services.

Interesting and quality book. Very curious about some things I learned about many special operations of the NKVD-KGB. A lot of details and information. I love such books.

Conclusion: Well-stated material, but more for those interested.
