Small daily gestures to help the environment

Many of us wonder how we can help the environment, pollute less and preserve the ecosystem around us.

That's why it's not necessary to do big things, in fact it's enough that every day each of us engages in small daily gestures that can make a difference, to pollute less, save energy, improve the environment around us, decrease global warming and in this way preserve resources for future generations.

At home, save energy

Household appliances are important tools that now help us in household chores, and to help the environment you don't need to give up, just choose those of category A or higher that are made for an effective energy saving; they cost a little more, but saving on consumption the initial cost is amortized over time.

If you have a single house, you can think of installing solar panels to produce electricity and heating yourself.

Turn off your electrical appliances and don't leave them on standby either. In fact, keeping them on stand-by consumes 30% more energy and if everyone turned them off they would save thousands of kilowatts every year, which means thousands of tons of less oil used to produce energy.

Replace incandescent bulbs with fluorescent bulbs that consume about 75% less and last much longer. Remember, however, to turn off the light when you leave a room.

Use the washing machine at full load, and maybe in the hours and days of the week when it costs less, or from 19 to 8 during the week (the so-called F2 band indicated on the bill) and on weekends and holidays (F3 band).

In addition, to waste less water you should avoid pre-washing, and to save energy also use a washing temperature of 40 degrees, washing at higher temperatures only those items that have stubborn stains.

Cleaning floors

Natural, environmentally friendly cleaning agents can be used for cleaning, including floor cleaning.

In addition, a product that is not harmful to health will be used, as well as a disinfectant against microbes and bacteria.

There are various types of detergent depending on the type of flooring we have in the house.

Stoneware, ceramic and concrete floors

To make a DIY detergent for stoneware, ceramic and cement floors, just a few good ingredients are enough, such as:

Water

White vinegar

Denatured alcohol

Liquid soap or Marseille soap

Preparation: Pour the water, alcohol, vinegar and Marseille soap into a bucket in flakes or a little dish soap.

If you have shiny floors, you can try to double the doses of alcohol and instead of vinegar use two tablespoons of bicarbonate.

Dip your mop into the bucket and squeeze it well and then you can start cleaning your floors, which will be sanitized and shiny in no time.

Wooden floors

Cleaning wooden floors is a more delicate operation as they are very delicate. It must be used:

Water

Two tablespoons of baking soda

A little Marseille soap

Realization: Add to the bucket with water the bicarbonate and the soap of Marseille, already dissolved previously, and then pass with a microfiber cloth that should be wrung out well.

Water recycling

As we all know, water is a precious asset that should not be wasted.

Therefore, if there are leaks in the taps or pipes, they must be repaired immediately.

In many ecological houses, a system is used that uses rainwater for drains and to irrigate gardens and gardens.

When brushing your teeth or taking a shower, it would be a good habit to close the tap when we do not use the jet, to avoid unnecessary waste.

If possible, prefer tap water to bottled water, to eliminate the Co2 produced by transporting it, and plastic for packaging.

Packaging

Preferably choose fresh food products without packaging, or 0 km, in this way you can avoid large consumption of Co2 for their production.

You can also shop with reusable fabric bags instead of plastic bags.

Don't waste food

Every day a lot of us buy food that we throw away for at least a third.

So you have to learn to buy only what you eat. So check the expiry date, recycle the leftovers and if we go to the restaurant we ask for a package to take home what we have not finished eating.

Doing separate collection

We make separate collection, recycling means eliminating waste that may have a new life.
