Reuse: the 7 most common wastes that are not at all waste. Part 1

Every day, a lot of waste ends up in landfills. But is everything you throw away really useless? We asked ourselves that. And we discovered that most of the objects that end up in the trash every day, actually still have something to give. That's why we are convinced that reuse can become a resource, economic and ecological, available to everyone.

For this reason, we have drawn up a list of the most common waste that ends up in the garbage, and that instead can have a second life thanks to reuse. Some are simple and very fast, others are a challenge to your creativity, maybe someone will surprise you or intrigue you. Hopefully, this list will inspire you to look at what you throw in with different eyes.

Reuse of 7 recurring household waste that is not rubbish:

1) Coffee grounds

Instead of throwing away this fragrant powder, you could reuse it instead. There are so many ways to use it that you might want more coffee grounds!

Fertilizer: crumble the wafer in pots, to use coffee as a fertilizer for home and garden plants.

Natural repellent for pests: instead of chemicals, use coffee grounds to keep ants and snails away. Simply place the powder in the areas where the ants pass, or around the plants affected by the voracity of the snails.

Anti-cellulite scrub for the body: the coffee powder has an excellent exfoliating power, which is also combined with the known effect of caffeine on cellulite (not by chance present in many cosmetic creams). Just add it to a body oil of your choice until you get a creamy texture, and massage it on the affected areas under the shower with circular movements.

Remove unpleasant odors from small rooms: such as closets, cars, chests, refrigerators, shoe racks. Simply dry the dust well after use and put it in a small container open in the room to be perfumed.

For cleaning: do you know the Japanese method of sweeping floors? It consists of throwing the well-dried coffee powder on the floor so that passing the broom does not raise the dust. It is also a useful method for removing ash from the fireplace. Try it to believe!

2) Tea leaves

Even used tea leaves can have a second life. In fact, they share many characteristics with coffee grounds: they are an excellent compost, they perfume, they absorb odors, they have dyeing and cosmetic properties because they are rich in antioxidants. The used sachets, after having them dried, can be inserted inside the shoes to absorb odors, or hung in closets and drawers to leave their characteristic scent.

3) Clothing fabrics, sheets, towels

What about the old fabrics? If clothes in good condition can be donated or sold, we often don't know what to do with clothes that are too damaged. Lise sheets, old towels, hollow t-shirts... all these fabrics can be recovered for various purposes, here are a few:

Renovation or repair a dress that has some flaws. You don't think about it anymore, but a stain can disappear under a new decoration, a narrow garment can widen and a wide one shorten or shrink. Sometimes the perfect dress already resides in our closet!

Get grocery bags and shopping bags: any sheet or pillowcase can be properly cut out to make a grocery bag. But if there is not much manual work, there is a way to turn old t-shirts into an envelope: just make a single stitch on the bottom, and cut the sleeves so as to use them as handles.

With the small scraps, you can make cushions to be used as fragrant linen, or a pincushion. For the padding itself, we can use rags and small cuttings, or put in some dried fragrant flowers.

Puppets and rag games, clothes for dolls. It may seem like an old-fashioned idea, but for children, the most beautiful games are those that make the imagination fly, they do not necessarily need technological gadgets to have fun. Also for the little ones who tend to put everything in their mouths, it is better to play a cloth game than a plastic one.

Rags for dusting or washing: why buy new ones, when squares made from an old sheet have always been used for cleaning and dusting?

Creative recycling: a beautiful colored fabric could be part of a patchwork project, cover other materials, be transformed into an accessory, become a bracelet, a kennel for a pet, a potholder...
