Not so long ago, a novelty from INSPECTOR model TAU S appeared on the market of radar detectors. The letter "S" - as usual, designates a signature component that should cut off a lot of unnecessary emissions, such as - cruise controls, automatic doors of supermarkets, etc.
I will start by saying that the manufacturer is announcing a detailed base of stationary points. And it is quite often updated (but about this later). I suggest you start with the usual packaging
COMPLEX
- The radar detector itself
- Cigarette lighter charger
- Mounting with suction cups on the windscreen
- Velcro mounting on the dashboard
- Velcro
- USB cable for database update
- USB cable
- Instruction and warranty card
The set is standard for many gadgets of this class, it is a shame that there is no sticky mat on the dashboard (yet many people like it better).
Box
Everything is packed in a standard hard box of black and blue colors, as I usually say in my reviews to give no shame.
CORPUS and DEFINITIONS
The front of the TAU S. Main antenna horn.
Upper part. 4 navigation keys (MODE, MENU, MUTE, and DIM), as well as the sensor for "LASER" reception, the speaker
Right side. USB connector to connect the cable (to update).
Left side. Power connector, and roller for adding volume down.
The backline. Main OLED display, black - white.
I would like to note in my review - the body is standard, similar to the usual radar detectors. There are some design solutions such as roughness at the top, but they have no practical value.
MAIN MENU
The interesting thing about the overview is how the INSPECTOR TAU S is configured. Here again, everything is standard, as I have already written, there is an OLED display that displays basic information in black and white letters. Typically this is (left to right) mode, speed limit, time or speed limit, and direction.
Main display
With the MODE key, we can switch between the basic modes (but this is just below).
If you enter the menu by clicking on the corresponding button, you can set up everything you can here. From limiting the speeds in different modes (CITY, TRACSA, SIGNATURE, and IQ) to disabling any K, X, Laser, Arrow, etc.
X mode is off
You can set the priority of the RD/BD (Radar Detector - Database) or vice versa. Here you need to try when the radiation is perceived better, many people put the RD/BDD exactly, because the priority goes to the radar detector, so it works better.
But in general, there are a lot of settings, I will tell you about them in detail in my video review at the bottom of the article, so I advise you to look at them.
POSSIBILITIES
Now there are all two types of radar detectors, those that are equipped with classical horn antennas (this is exactly the type of our TAU S) and the second type is PATCH-antenna, about them I mentioned in my other reviews. Which of them is better, still to know. Not always everything depends on the type of antenna.
As I wrote above in INSPECTOR TAU S, there are only 4 basic modes:
- CITY
- TRACES
- SIGNATURE
- IQ
Route mode
The most interesting, in my opinion, is "IQ" - why? Simply because it can change the basic modes depending on the speed (and you can set the speed interval yourself in the menu).
This is how it works - say, up to 60 km/h, the "SIGNATURE" mode works, then when you exceed "CITY", and after you reach 90 km/h, the "TRACES" is activated.
Thus, you are always connected to the desired mode, for a certain speed. Which makes signal detection much better.
Possibilities
PLUSES: Radar complex (not GPS, but radiation) works on different systems from about 250 meters, and it is in the city. The result is good.
On the country roads, the "TRACSA" mode is switched on, the sensitivity grows much, so the reception interval increases.
PRO GPS:
Iron is based on the GPS receiver U-BLOX 7.
The manufacturer notes that the GPS coordinates databases are laid down not only in Russia but also in detailed CIS countries, which is also a plus. It should be noted that it indicates not only radar systems (speed mode) but also: - back control, control of roadsides, parking, OT lanes, intersection passages, pedestrian crossings, etc.
CAR MOUNTING
Standard, or two suction cups on the windshield (as in hundreds of similar gadgets), or there are two "velcro" (as on the shoes), you can glue to the panel and install so.
Personally, I'm more accustomed to suction cups, yet it is more convenient to control the speed and various emissions when the gadget is in front of my eyes. And its flat body does not cover a lot of space on the windshield.
TOTAL
As usual, at the end of the review, we start with the price of the gadget. The cost (according to the official website), about 115 USD. It should be noted not little, for such a radar detector. It would be desirable in the region of 75 - 95 USD.
