6 books that you will read in a few days in nature and will surely have fun
Zoe Stage, "BRENNAN TEETH"
A great novelty for fans of psychological thrillers with an unexpected plot. The main character of the book, Suzette Jensen, is afraid not of anyone but of her own daughter. Suzette has always wanted a child, though she herself was deprived of maternal love, and also suffers from severe genetic disease. She decided that she would be the perfect parent, but life was rich in surprises. Since childhood, her daughter, Hannah, has been spoiling everything on purpose. She has a naughty character, and she has not taken root in any kindergarten or school. She is constantly fighting with her mother, literally harassing her with her tricks. Suzette no longer knows how to raise her daughter - and most importantly, once she noticed in the eyes of the child hatred of such power that seriously began to fear for his life. But is this threat true or is something wrong with Suzette's mind?
Truman Capote, "Voices of Grass"
One of Truman Capote's most piercing works is ideal for reading in a country house, where nothing distracts you from the cozy world of this book. "The Voices of the Grass is a story about the life of Colin Fenwick, an orphan boy, at his aunt's house. One of them, Verena, is a strict and willful woman, and the other, Dolly, on the contrary, is kind and merciful. The text tells of a short period of their lives: summer is in the yard, Fenwick is growing up, and there is a rift between sisters - Dolly knows the secret of the potion from the water but does not want to share it with Verena, who conceived to launch serial production of medicine. The story is imbued with light sadness and nostalgic for childhood: Colleen Fenwick, of course, is the alter ego of Truman Capote himself, and that's why the text turned out so true and convincing.
Nina Lacour, "WE ARE ALRIGHT"
The action of the novel by Nina Lacour develops in two-time layers simultaneously - in a happy past and in a sad present. Childhood of the main character of the book, Marin, was in the company of her grandfather - he raised her, as in three years, she remained an orphan. Grandfather tried his best to replace her parents, and to some extent, he even succeeded: despite everything, Marin's childhood was almost cloudless. She was also helped to communicate with Mabel, a faithful friend. However, then there was an event that broke the relationship between the grandfather and the main character. Marin leaves for another city, suffering from loneliness and memories of the past. When she started to recover, Mabel comes to her unexpectedly, enlivening her presence with past experiences. The situation is complicated by the fact that Marin has more than just friendly feelings for Mabel. Nina Lacour's novel is imbued with a sense of sadness and loneliness, but after reading it in the soul remains a bright sense of hope for the future - and in this healing power of the text is one of its main advantages.
Alice Hoffman, "RED GARDEN"
Alice Hoffman - a famous American writer, whose fame came after the screening of her book "Practical Magic" in the late 1990s. It was also she who wrote the script for the cult film "Independence Day" by Robert Mandel. Hoffman - a bright representative of the magical realism in modern literature: she likes to introduce into the ordinary plots of fairytale and fantastic elements. "Red Garden is a collection of stories about the people of Blackwell, Massachusetts. From the book, the reader learns about its most unusual inhabitants, who are united by a magical red garden, where only red fruits grow. Of course, there are ghosts, crazy women and a mysterious stranger from the forest. Hoffmann's stories are good because they are interesting not only for their mystical component but also a deep psychological study of the characters.
Vladimir Nabokov, "ADVANTAGE"
In summer, in an impulse of nostalgia, I often want to read a classic work - in memory of the school lists of literature. If you have such a desire, a good variant would be a novel by Vladimir Nabokov "The feat". On the one hand, it is rarely included in the mandatory reading program, but on the other hand, it serves as a model of beautiful text. The hero of the work, an emigrant Martin Edelweiss, travels around Europe, trying to find something to do for himself so that it wouldn't be so boring to live. However, this is exactly the problem - and Edelweiss decides to make a feat. The feat, in this case, is his return to his homeland - Russia, from where he was forced to leave. About preparation for this heroic deed is told in the novel.
Sandra Cisneros, "House on Mango-Street"
Sandra Sisneros' short but absolutely wonderful book was written in the early 1980s and is only now available in Russian. In the USA, she managed to win the title of modern classics for teenagers - although it is fascinating to read it at any age. Sandra Sisneros - one of the first Latin American writers in the U.S., which has received wide recognition. The heroine of her book, little Esperanza, lives with her parents in immigrant neighborhoods. The girl describes her life and the life of her neighbors in simple terms and tells stories that happen to her or her acquaintances. It should be noted that the book is not a novel, but a collection of sketches, which are united by a common theme.
