Washing your hair too much ruins it? Should the perfume be put in the fridge? Discover the 6 myths (really true) about beauty, skin, hair and body care
Often and willingly we rely on the word of mouth of friends, the old remedies of grandmother, our (not so much) infallible intuition, which leads us to a DIY with results not always optimal. Just as many beauty myths, which have spread over the years, have no foundation and lead to effects opposite to those desired, there are instead some that are not so crazy and will spare you a few sessions at the beautician or hairdresser.
1. Chignons and ponytails that are too narrow can cause hair loss
These are hairstyles that never go out of fashion and that allow you to have a tidy look. And then let's face it... who hasn't thought that making a high tail would also allow you to achieve that lifting effect that rejuvenates by a few years? Keeping your hair always tied and especially in hairstyles too "stretched" can weaken the hair. The scalp is put under pressure and the root can be affected, causing a weakening of the hair and the subsequent fall. It is better to prefer softer hairstyles or loose hair.
2. Straightening the skin gives rise to wrinkles
Often we don't even notice it, but we are used to repeating facial expressions, tics and gestures that increase those small wrinkles on the forehead, sides of the eyes and mouth. Just think of the gesture we make every time we make up. We raise our eyelids to apply mascara and widen our mouths to apply lipstick or we close it "like a fish" to apply the blush on our cheeks. Well... these simple gestures are one of the causes of early wrinkles. Over time, the facial muscles lose their flexibility and the lines on the face are accentuated. Warning: even chewing gum continuously does not help!
3. Washing your hair too often ruins it and weakens it
We have an important appointment, we go out with friends and we do not want to be found unprepared with a hairstyle that recalls frighteningly Magician Magician. It's not a good excuse to wash your hair again. Using the shampoo too often dries them because it removes that natural coating of oil from the hair that protects them and moisturizes the skin. This does not mean that you have to wash them once a month, but rather gradually reduce the days between shampoos, thus allowing the rebalancing of the natural secretion of sebum. It is also advisable to use a smaller quantity of product each time you wash it and maybe white vinegar, which degreases and makes the hair shinier!
4. Dark chocolate is good for the skin
Don't feel guilty if you occasionally treat yourself to a chocolate to quench your appetite for sweets. Dark chocolate is a food rich in flavonoids, antioxidants that protect the skin from UV rays. That said, you can't lie down in the sun with a nice bowl of chocolate, forgetting the sunscreen! The chocolate that does well is the one containing at least 60% of cocoa and the recommended amount is from 30 to 50 grams per day. Among other benefits: it is one of the most powerful natural antidepressants, is good for the heart, helps to reduce bad blood cholesterol and blood pressure.
5. The sun ages the skin
Let's face it... who has never thought of accelerating the tan by omitting sunscreen or preferring a super tanning oil so as not to return home after a week at sea with that colour still a bit tending towards milk-white? Several studies have shown that 70% of skin aging is mainly due to the rays that penetrate deeply and alter the elasticity of the skin, promoting the production of free radicals. It is therefore important to always be careful to use a sunscreen that helps to contain the damage.
6. The refrigerator is the best place to store the perfume
Before doing so, however, tell those who live with you. There is a risk that you will find yourself with a particularly... perfumed salad. Often hot climates and even direct sunlight can damage the oils inside. If, on the other hand, you prefer to avoid the risk of "food poisoning", it is best to keep the bottle in its packaging inside a cabinet, trying to avoid temperature changes. The rooms overlooking the north side of the house are the best as they are cooler in the summer.
