The Alcazar of Seville (Los Jardines del Agua, Dorne)
Nowhere in the world could they have represented the water gardens of the Kingdom of Dorne except in the wonderful Alcázar of Seville. This palace has been converted, through the magic of television, into the private residence of Palazzo Martell, the Dornian rulers. The Andalusian capital has made everything more magical, with the vibrant light of its colors. The fifth season of Game Of Thrones was filmed in part in the lush gardens of Seville, among its sources and even within beautiful rooms, priceless artistic heritage.
Plaza de toros of Osuna, Seville (Arena Meereen)
The Osuna arena is one of the stars of the fifth season of Game Of Thrones. One of the symbols of the city of Seville turns into the Meereen arena for the most “crowded” scene ever recorded in this series (and the most expensive in the history of television!).
Due to the secrecy that surrounded the shooting of Game Of Thrones in Osuna, we still do not know whether they also recorded in the beautiful collegiate or Coto de las Canteras. In any case, just follow the new episodes. If you are nearby and want to visit Osuna, do not forget to stop at Casa Curro, the first restaurant in the city, which offers a thematic menu dedicated to the series.
Roman bridge of Cordoba, Andalusia (Bridge of Volantis)
That's right: the magnificent Roman Bridge of Cordoba will become, for the grace of Game Of Thrones, The Long Bridge of Volantis, the one that crosses the Rhoyne River and that in the HBO series will be the Guadalquivir. Images of this wonderful monument of the city of Cordoba were filmed with multiple cameras and with the help of a drone. Yes: it is also possible that in the new season it looks different and has been modified with special effects to make it look even longer.
The Roman Bridge of Cordoba was built by Imperial troops in the first century BC to replace an older wooden one. After the Islamic reconstruction, the bridge has 16 arches (one less than it originally had), a length of 247 meters and a width of 9. Spectacular as few!
MOROCCO
Aït-Ben-Haddou (Yunkai and Pentos)
Follow the story of Daenerys Targaryen through the slave Bay and Free Cities: the Moroccan Aït-Ben-Haddou is a Ksar (a fortified city) located about 100 kilometers from Marrakech and rises majestically in a hill overlooking a vast and dry land, and a river sometimes without water. Thanks to its practically perfect state of preservation and its historical importance, it is considered a very popular destination among tourists... and film professionals.
Located on the fictional continent of Essos, in the world of the television series Game Of Thrones, Aït-Ben-Haddou turns into Yunkai, the smallest of the three cities in the slave Bay, and Pentos, the largest of the Free Cities. Certainly, Aït-Ben-Haddou is not a new location in the world of cinema. Since 1960 she has appeared in various Hollywood films and series, such as Lawrence Of Arabia, Jesus of Nazareth, The Mummy, Gladiator, Alexander The Great, Babel and Prince of Persia: The Sands of time, to point out just a few.
ESSAOUIRA (Astapor)
In Game Of Thrones The City of Astapor is located south of Yunkai, Essaouira is west of Aït-Ben – Haddou – about 100 kilometers west of Marrakech-in the Atlantic coast of Marruecos. The city has a population of 70,000 and one of the highlights is the fortified wall, which in the fictitious Astapor makes a beautiful display of itself on the screen.
Unlike her twin sister in Game Of Thrones, Essaouira is known for her much more relaxed atmosphere. Apparently, in the 60s he looked hippie, thanks to the admiration that some music stars such as Cat Stevens and Jimi Hendrix had. It is a fishing port, and those who visit it will find themselves admiring one of the most picturesque places in Morocco.
OUARZAZATE, Atlas Corporation Studios
Atlas Studios are the largest film studios in the world and are located in the middle of the desert of Morocco, just outside the city of Ouarzazate. As well as being a spectacular place for filming, studios are also a very popular tourist attraction, as many of the filming sets are preserved practically intact. Tourists can reserve their seats on organized tours. In addition to the scenes seen in Game Of Thrones, films such as Babel, Gladiator and Asterix and Obélix: Cleopatra mission were also shot here.
