Mdina door (the King's landing door)
The old capital of Malta, Mdina, boasts 4,000 years of history and is a medieval city set on a hill, in the center of the island. It has Punic runes and is generally known as”the Silent City". Its doors and walls are a sight for sight.
In Game Of Thrones we can see Catelyn and Ser Rodrik Cassel, riding to King's Landing, through Mdina's splendid gate, to investigate the attack on Bran.
Forte Ricasoli (the gate of the red fortress of King's landing)
Fort Ricasoli is a large fortress of the XVII century, built for the Knights of the Order of Malta in the Promontory known as Gallows Point. It is one of the first things you see, if you visit the picturesque village of Kalkara, which dominates the Great Port. In the past it was a military installation for centuries and played an active part in the defense of Malta during World War II, when it was severely damaged. Due to its current conditions, it can not be visited, but it has been used as a location for films and television series such as: Agora, Troia, Gladiator, Helen of Troy and Julius Caesar.
As for Westeros, Fort Ricasoli, was used in the first season to represent the red fortress of King's landing.
Azure Window (The Wedding of Daenerys y Khal Drogo)
This natural stone arch boasts a height of 50 meters and is known as”the Blue Window". He served as a backdrop for Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo's wedding. Located on the maltese island of Gozo, and near the Dwejra Bay, it is very popular with tourists. It is the second oldest fortress in Malta and is also one of the most photographed places on the island.
In addition to Game Of Thrones, this place has also appeared in films such as fury of the Titans and the count of Montecristo, as well as in the television miniseries The Odyssey.
The gardens of the Palace of Verdala (the House of Illyrio Mopatis)
Since 1987 the Palace of Verdala is the summer residence of the president of Malta, but its origins date back to the XVI century, when it was built over a hunting Hut. This elegant palace is surrounded by the beautiful gardens of Buskett, an embellished area that the Knights of the Order of Malta used to hunt. During the eighteenth century, Napoleon used it as a military prison. Abandoned for some time, it was later restored and converted into a luxury residence for the powerful of Malta. It is closed to the public, but you can walk around the gardens and imagine yourself spying on the House of Illyrio Mopatis.
The place was chosen as the residence of Illyrio Mopatis and it is here that Daenerys and Viserys met Khal Drogo and his khalassar before the wedding.
The Palace of San Anton (the red fortress)
This 16th century palace is located in Attar, the official residence of the president of Malta and is surrounded by private and public gardens. The Knight Antoine de Paule founded it as a large villa for his illustrious guests.
[SPOILER] The Palace of San Anton converts to the red fortress of Game Of Thrones. In the first season of the series, we saw the Starks arrive here and use his stable and then be assassinated by Lannister's soldiers while unloading materials. It was also used as a passage of the red fortress, in which Ned is informed by Varys and Meñique, that the Golden hoods are under his control.
Fort St Angelo (the dungeons of Fortaleza Roja)
Fort St Angelo is a large fortress in the fortified town of Birgu, right in the center of the Great Harbor. Its origins are unknown, but some prehistoric and classical remains have been found here. In the past it was an official residence and a military quarter for centuries and, when the Knights of the Order of Malta arrived, the island was converted to the seat of the Grand Master. Much later, in the XVIII century, the British used it as a military installation and suffered considerable damage during the Second World War. They're renovating it now.
His underground tunnels were used in Game Of Thrones, in the dungeons of the red fortress, where Arya arrives chasing a cat (one of the tasks assigned by Syrio Forel) and here he listens to a key conversation.
Fort Manoel (Great Temple of Baelor)
This is another of the Great fortifications of Malta. Fort Manoel is located on the island of Manoel, in the Bay of Marsamxett, northeast of Valletta, and was built by the Knights of the Order of Malta between 1723 and 1755. The active military fortress, passed under British control in the eighteenth century and also played an important role in World War II.
[SPOILER] part of King's landing, in Game Of Thrones, the Fuerte Manoel is the Great Temple of Baelor, the infamous place where Joffrey causes Ned Stark to confess his betrayal and where he later has him executed in front of everyone.
