DIESEL: a political battle that displaces the European industry, part 1

For some time now, the war on diesel engines has begun, guilty of polluting and making the air of our cities unbreathable. Also, some administrations have banned the circulation of Euro 6 diesel engines, which is the best on the market. And this after many have paid a lot of money to comply with environmental and safety standards. More than the war on diesel due to real and technically relevant reasons, we are facing two problems. The industrial war underway against the European giants and the total ignorance of those who, in politics, administer public affairs. If, because of the ignorance of mayors and ministers, we can inform ourselves as much as possible, we can try to explain the part of the industrial war. Have you seen the graph at the beginning? Well, that's all there is to it. Just analyze it and translate it for the less gifted minds, in this case, mayors, etc.

CO2 TO BE KNOCKED DOWN ONLY SOLUTION THE DIESEL

For some time now, there has been a battle for the reduction of Co2, carbon dioxide or carbon dioxide depending on how it is understood. It is not a polluting gas, because present in nature and natural product of combustion and food for plants that transform it into photosynthesis chlorophyll. It is considered a greenhouse gas, i.e. a compound that contributes to the increase in the temperature of the earth's globe. To reduce this gas, restrictions have been decided that for cars, in 2020, they will reach a maximum of 95 grams per km of CO2 emitted by each car. Among the engines in circulation, diesel is the one that, from the thermodynamic point of view (the law of physics) has the best performance. That is, given the 100 energy value introduced, the engine uses 25-27. The better the thermodynamic efficiency, so the oxygen that burns, the lower the emission of gases. All diesel engines have very low Co2 values. A petrol engine has lower efficiency, it does not reach 21 percent, so it pollutes more and with the new direct-injection engines, especially with the real homologation cycle, not bogus on the rollers like today, they are even more disorientated because there are higher dust and NOx emissions. Peugeot has just presented the new Puretech engines that have a filter and reduces this type of pollution. Ergo, having to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, the European manufacturers have followed the only viable path with an internal combustion engine. So the choice of diesel was right, sacrosanct and with the pollutants controllable and manageable with filters and additives. Gasoline, on the other hand, was not. Now if you look at the graph and take a look at the Co2 values of the USA, China, and Japan, it immediately catches the eye that these countries have much higher Co2 values than those in Europe and therefore only means one thing: they have emissions due to combustion that are much higher than Europe.

IS A POLITICAL BATTLE AGAINST EUROPE

European manufacturers have developed technologies and knowledge to produce ever cleaner and less polluting cars. The US manufacturers, on the other hand, or the Chinese, not to mention the Japanese, have continued along their path. That is, large displacement engines, with very high Co2 emissions. If they had to comply with the same European standards in the USA, which were virtuous and at this point also stupid because they were suicidal, they would have found themselves with industries that were out of the game, technically unable to adapt to the rules, with very high costs for their social status. In China, they pollute profusion because their industrial growth is uncontrolled, while in Japan, to meet the standards on Co2 have invented hybrid engines that combine an electric motor with a gasoline engine. But at this point, with the ongoing war on Co2 and the new limits to be reached, in Europe have invested in diesel abroad instead, failing to contain emissions with petrol engines and not wanting to convert to diesel, a European specialty, have invented everything and more to combat these engines.
