The Old Town of Dubrovnik (King's landing)
In Dubrovnik is the official throne of the Kings of Westeros: King's landing. It is not surprising at all to see that this monumental city has been chosen to become one of the most emblematic places of Game Of Thrones. The ancient city of Dubrovnik consists of large and sturdy stone walls and is located on a peninsula near a dramatic cliff.
In the world of Game Of Thrones, King's Landing is an important place-it appears in every episode-in which many of the characters ' stories meet and mingle. It is also a place appreciated by those who love intrigues, secrets, mysterious books, conspiracies... in King's landing, there is all this and much more.
Minčeta Tower (House of the eternal)
The mysterious House of the Eternal is actually the Minčeta Tower, located near the already mentioned walls of Dubrovnik. In the past it has been an important defensive tower. It also represents the symbol of how strong and impregnable the city is.
[SPOILER] at the end of the book A Clash of Kings, Daenerys must confront various visions in the House of the Eternal, to find out more about his future. In the series, Daenerys is forced to enter to redeem his Dragons - one of the changes that occurred in the transition to the television series.
Lovrijenac fortress (the red fortress)
The red fortress – the heart of King's Landing-is really located in the Fortress of Lovrijenac, located on the borders of Dubrovnik. Curiosity: in the entrance there is an ancient inscription that can be translated as “freedom is not sold even for all the gold in the world”. Maybe it's a secret detail of who took care of the shooting? Well, maybe the way we do things like the Lannisters may not be the best after all.
In order not to get confused, the scenes of the red fortress of the first season were filmed in Malta, but from the next onwards it was decided to move the group of shooting in Croatia, in order to have more external locations such as those of Dubrovnik and the Fortress of Lovrijenac. The right Bay in front of the Fortress was used for the scene of the Battle of Blackwater.
Lokrum (Quarth)
Only a hundred meters from the coast of Dubrovnik, there is the beautiful island of Lokrum, which is easy to access by boat from the Old Port. The journey takes only 10 minutes. The fortress, at the highest point of the island, offers spectacular views of the National Park. Playa lovers will not miss to fall in love with Lokrum, as it has some postcard beaches (one of them is for naturists). However, you do not expect much sand, since, as happens in most of the Croatian coast, the stones are the mistress.
In Game Of Thrones Lokrum turns into Quarth, the “city of merchants”, located on the continent of Essos. The already reported House of The Eternals is located in Quarth, where Daenerys will experience his magic on more than one occasion.
Sibenico (Braavos)
The beautiful medieval town of Sibenico is one of the wonderful locations of Game Of Thrones of the fifth season of the series. Located in sunny Croatia, it will be Braavos, one of the Free Cities, between the Narrow Sea and the Sea of chills.
Take a break to enjoy the charm of this city. The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Cathedral of St. James will host the wedding of the season. With its walls and its ancient architecture, Sibenico is protected by four fortresses and is a good place to spend wonderful days.
Split (King's landing)
Some scenes from the fifth season of Game Of Thrones were filmed inside Diocletian's opulent Palace in Split. We know Cersei Lannister has been here, but it has not yet been revealed why. You'll have to wait to see him on the show. Surely the large complex of the palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, which is a World Heritage site, will surprise you in every way.
In Season Four, a stone quarry in Split was used as a location for a speech by Khaleesi Daenerys Targaryen in front of hundreds of freed slaves.
Clissa fortress
The medieval fortress of Clissa, on top of a hill, is one of the places where Daenerys plans his return to power. It was not used too much in the series, but this place is worth a visit.
Krka National Park
This lush and Green Nature Reserve has been used several times during the filming of The Game Of Thrones series. With its turquoise waters and the beauty of its waterfalls: they could not find more idyllic place.
Tin (King's landing)
Pond is located in the south of Croatia and its famous walls were chosen as part of the fortifications of the capital of the West, King's landing. But many tourists have already passed by here to explore the meters and meters of the” Great Wall of Europe", dating from the XIV and XV centuries.
