The schedule for the day is cracking at the seams by lunchtime. Every hour new tasks appear. Even time management ASU is not always able to cope with a lot of questions and problems, each of which is of paramount importance. Is it familiar?

And not a fire alarm

When applying for a job, we hear: "maintaining a balance of work and rest", "acceptable working hours", "good internal practices". However, in practice, supervisors often require subordinates to stay in touch seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Electronic gadgets are no longer an assistant or a way of having fun. They inform the whole world that "the subscriber was online 15 minutes ago", "visited his page the day before yesterday", "is available online now". The call from work, which rises from bed at night - it is not a fire alarm and a stroke to the portrait of the middle manager.

Save time

Take everything from life. The impossible is possible. Challenge everything. Advertising slogans keep people in tone. Do not allow you to relax and motivate the fact that you need to do as much as possible in a short period of time. But do we really want it? Who or what is responsible for the choice: the person himself, his boss or the label on the soda can? To find out this, it is worth answering five questions with the utmost honesty:

  1. Does work bring pleasure? Is it really the most important thing in life?
  2. How often do you get to say no? How many of the "yes" you say in response to a request from colleagues or family members would like to take back?
  3. Is there a place where you can be alone and not use the phone and the internet?
  4. When and what was the last time you laughed? What is your favorite hobby?
  5. How many hours a day can I sleep for?

These questions can be answered in one way: yes, no, I do not know. Or give us specific figures and dates. This is not a school math test, where there is only one right decision. It is more important to understand why the answer is this. And what are the unfavorable consequences if the situation is not changed in time. There are a number of recommendations for this.

Set priorities

Set your priorities correctly. If the work is a burden, stop doing it. Or, if this is not possible, give yourself to work with minimal mental effort. For example, in the office, you only have to perform your duties from nine to six in good faith, and then rush home to open your heart to the joy of communicating with your family.

Learn to refuse

Learn to say no. Not all requests and suggestions need to be answered with consent. Consenting people always become a good bait for those who are used to shifting responsibility to others.

Everyone needs privacy from time to time. As Ethan Hawley did in "Our Winter of Alarm" or Holly Golightly from "Breakfast at Tiffany's. Whether it will be a cave on the seashore or a jewelry store - it's up to you.

Take a break

Call a break. The brain loves the change of activity. He actively develops during the game, at the same time gets the necessary rest from routine tasks. Team sports, solo marathons or just jigsaw puzzles - all this is great for relieving stress.

Darkness is not a friend. Many people prefer to work at night. They say that at this time they are not distracted, it is easier to concentrate, and it is a pity to waste time sleeping. But this is not a successful behavior. Lost health - and the lack of sleep threatens with kidney dysfunction and strokes - will interrupt work at the wrong time.

Such advice will help to eliminate unnecessary and unimportant things in life. Take a new look at yourself. And to build an adequate system of values.

Pareto's Law: 20 versus 80

Any work can be evaluated in terms of efficiency. One way to do this is to apply the principle of economist Wilfredo Pareto. He was quite confused about the idea of distributing efforts and achieving results. But he was the first to think about it. George Zippf, Harvard professor, led to the final clarity of Pareto's law in 1949.

- The idea is that 20% of the effort determines 80% of the result. The remaining 80% of the cost is only 20%. In other words, it is possible to achieve an incredible and grandiose effect in a short period of time, if the best resources are used. Examples can be found in this regard:

  • Rich people: only 20% of the population owns 80% of the welfare of the entire society;
  • Fairytale characters: the mouse has applied even less than 20% of its own efforts, but this provided the missing 80% of the pulling of the turnip;
  • Dictionaries: Daily speech uses no more than 20% of the total number of words in any of the world's languages;
  • Well-crafted case lists: only 20% of the total list deserves a truly serious effort, 80% of the body's resources.

This method helps to distribute the efforts and ensures that the right outcome is achieved. Ultimately, it clears the way to a single overall goal on which to focus as much as possible. Think about it!

Which 20% of 100% of the cases are worth highlighting as the most important and priority?!
