The handbag is a very important element in the look: aesthetic and functional at the same time. I can't do without my handbag and, big or small, I put everything into it and always carry it with me. The handbag is a very important element in the look: aesthetic and functional at the same time.
I can't do without my handbag and, big or small, I put everything into it and always carry it with me.
Even Margaret Thatcher didn't take a step without carrying her handbag with her and, during institutional meetings and appointments with ambassadors and heads of state, she laid it there right next to her chair.
And when he wanted to conclude an important speech, the handbag was placed on the table, to make him understand.
"You can't have the bag, but I can behave as hard as you can": it was as if he were telling his male colleagues.
So much so that it created a real term in the journalistic vocabulary still used today to tell the fate of a political dispute: "handbagging" - taking handbags.
Just as the Iron Lady imagined to do if her interlocutor did not agree with her words and she intended to lead him to more mythical advice.
On the other hand, as I told you in this post, the close relationship between a woman and her handbag has deep historical roots and the birth of this accessory has helped to emancipate the woman.
It is as if, together with all our possessions, we also carry with us the possibility of choosing and owning (something that has not always been taken for granted by women).
In addition, the handbag, just as an accessory, allows us to use the magical power of combinations, telling, for example, our most energetic part.
Or giving an original touch to a classic look.
Once the concept of bag and shoes of the same color is over, it is really elegant to be able to combine our handbag with an element of our look, such as pants, or blouse.
Or why not tune our handbag to chromatic harmony?
But what happens to you every day?
Let's imagine it.
It happens that you have lots of bags and always use the same because
1) you don't have time to change them
2) you don't remember what you own.
(The consolation is that when you find one of the handbags you don't remember, you seem to have something new.)
It happens that your favorite is the one large enough for all your needs and that every morning when you look in the mirror before going out, you realize that it is comfortable but it does not fit with all the rest of your look.
So one day you said to yourself:
I decided: at every change of look I will make a change of handbag.
You read Marie Kondo willingly and proudly and, for a while, you also tried to follow her directions, you tried to empty your handbag every night, to blow well into it to eliminate negative energy, to store it well and to place all the contents in an empty pocket near the entrance, ready for the next day's bag.
But you couldn't.
When you get home you are overwhelmed by everything that there is to do, the children require your attention, the washing machine is to fill, the dinner to prepare, or simply there is Netflix to see, and you do not really want to start making and unpacking your handbag.
It is also difficult for you to change the place of that bag, which your friend gave you last Christmas as a solution to the long-standing problem, to keep everything inside and move if necessary and that, for months, lies inside the same handbag.
How to solve the situation and do it with simplicity?
Here are two practical tips for you.
FIRST TIP
Every Sunday think about the looks you'll wear during your week and, once created, hang them right on the hangers in chronological order.
Don't forget about the accessories: choose, for example, the jersey you'll wear on Wednesday and think already about the necklace you'll want to match it with and put them together in the closet.
Do the same with the bag, so it will be more natural for you to think locally about the bag that would look just fine on Thursday because it matches the color of the jacket you're going to wear.
SECOND ADVICE
The second tip is very simple: do not match your handbag to your look.
Where does it say that you have to change your purse every day?
Match a scarf or a pendant to your bag that matches the colors of your look and you'll always be fine.
Do you love neutral-colored bags because they don't bother you?
Great! It will be even easier to combine them.
Do you like to dress colorful but only have black handbags?
Inspired by this look, black will certainly not be the predominant color.
Does your heart purse have a bright color?
But you're just fine with its shape and size.
If you follow my advice you can combine it in a total black look, maybe by being inspired by the color of the bag to choose the accessories.
