The Umbrella Academy is another Netflix attempt to move the comic book to the screen. The idea of the plot does not shine with novelty - superheroes are trying to save the world.
Gifted kids (like kids...adults, such kids) with superpowers come to their ancestral home for the funeral of the founder of the Umbrella Academy and, at the same time, their foster father, to pay tribute to the deceased. Luther (number 1) is a huge and very strong child who lives on the Moon (on the instructions of his father), but every evening he looks at the Earth with sadness and to this day dries for Alison (it will be her turn). Diego (number 2) - an inglorious lonely hero, wearing a black tight suit and a funny mask a la Mr. X, runs around the night city and saves the townspeople in trouble - knows how to direct the knives exactly to the target. Alison (number 3) - a famous Hollywood star, has the gift of persuasion and is able to "spread rumors" in which everyone believes (strange superpower, but works the same). Klaus (number 4) - a rare idiot - communicates with the dead; he is so afraid of his gift that he jammed it with huge portions of heroin, and for lack of it, eats tons of potent medicines. And Vanya (number 7) - the only one who does not have any supermodels, but not badly saws on the violin.
Where did number 5 and number 6 go? Number 6, aka Ben, died many years ago in an accident. And Number 5 will appear from the parallel universe (he travels in time, between worlds and in general where he wants to go), just in the middle of the mourning ceremony "ashes to ashes" and will tell his half-brothers and sisters that the world will soon come full of fags. Actually, that's the whole story. And then the miracle children will go "to war" to save the world.
At the end of the final series, I did not understand (and still can not decide) my attitude to what I saw - whether I wasted my time or Netflix is good. Gloomy, sinister, intriguing beginning, which did not promise anything good to the world, intrigued and promised me a lot of good things ahead). And now the story goes on, but nothing happens. Four episodes (four, Carl!) of the story trampled in one place, with a sluggish attempt to dilute a little "stupor" restless pair of hired killers (to bring some semblance of movement), and pranks of Klausa (to give the narrative a note of comedy). No, then "life will get better", but why such a long and detailed acquaintance with the main characters? Somehow Steve Blackman (Fargo, modified carbon) with the "bouquet and flower" period, don't you think? In addition, in the course of the "play" a number of questions arose unobtrusively: the inability of super-superheroes to cope with a couple of killers in clown's masks, for what reasons heroin offhand takes away Klaus' ability to see all but one of the ghosts, why superheroes all walk and walk when the world has already started to save?
But there are no claims to the visual number of claims at all. Directors-operators applaud standing up! Maybe that's why there was an irritation "in the shower" - the eye is pleasant, and the brain does not understand what the fuck is wrapped in a beautiful package?
Actors...mmm...not everyone shone. It's a pity that the charming Ellen Page (Juno, Beginning) got such a colorless, eternally sad, dying of self-pity and envy of others, Number 7. And the talented Robert Sheehan (Kill Bono) - Number 4, which is shot as a copy of his previous character Nathan from the series Scum (Misfits). I think these guys are clearly capable of more than that. Actress Emmy Raver-Lampman (Alison, Number 3), in some places desperately resembled a wooden Pinocchio, unable to reach her character either emotionally or on stage. The two brothers "acrobats" No. 1 and No. 2 - Tom Hopper (Doctor Who) and David Castaneda (Deceive me) - are as good as their eternal struggle for leadership. I just went all ten episodes, creating a crowd and complementing the detachment to the seven characters. But fifteen-year-old Aidan Gallagher (Number 5) is elegant. So get used to the role, not lost in the background of "adult" celebrities, even sometimes overshadowed many of them. Bravushki! And, of course, the wise Pogo, he is out of the competition.
To summarize all of the above, I repeat once again - I can not understand my attitude to what I saw. There is no doubt that there is a lot of good in the show, but there is plenty of nonsense in the show, and that's why the "aftertaste" is absolutely blurred. On the one hand, I love the series, which make you sweat when you write about them, and on the other hand, I do not know how to advise, do not advise to watch.
Let's do this: those who appreciate the video order more - then all the norms, you will like it, the same for whom the story is "at the head of the table" - the Umbrella Academy has all the chances to disappoint you. In short, we all watch the pilot and decide on the spot).
