Teach me the art of small steps. Give me not what I wish for myself, but what I really need, -

these words entered the famous prayer written by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. The French writer, like many, loved to dream. After all, he was also a pilot - and was hovering in the clouds in the literal sense.

But Exupery knew that the dream itself could not be helped. Neither dreams of the future nor bright memories of the past will teach you to live today. Only a clear, clear, firmly set goal can make life better.

There are several methods

But what if there are goals in life - a carriage and a trolley in addition? How to determine the most worthy and really important? There are several effective methods to do this.

1. Entertaining: to make a rating of improbabilities. If one does not understand or difficult, call your friends and share in a fun conversation format, what would be the successes and heights in life would like to achieve everyone. Let go of your imagination, imagine yourself as the king of Sweden or the ace of molecular cuisine. Something you've invented will definitely want to do.

2. Tragic: imagine that the doctor has made a terrible diagnosis, the disease has left only a year of life. What should you do in time? The answer will be the most important goals, and more plausible than the first option.

3. Spontaneous: to record on a timer 30 seconds and three cherished wishes. Most likely, one of them will concern personal happiness, the second finance, and the third - a hobby or favorite work. And this is not a trick: the brain reacted to the emergency task and gave the right result.

To hit a target

Taking on a new task, setting an interesting task or simply crossing the age limit, we always set a goal:

  • to become slimmer for the swimming season;
  • to get promoted to the head of the department;
  • give birth to a second child by the age of thirty.

It is you who need it

Whatever this goal may concern, it should be necessary for you in the first place. Here are examples of imprecisely formulated tasks: "Have my husband bring me flowers every night" or "It would be nice if my daughter graduated with honors from university. To achieve these goals, it is not enough to have a personal desire: the husband and daughter have to set these targets and strive to get into the bull's-eye.

Disconnect the altruist

When formulating a goal, you need to turn off the altruist. What is the point of concentrating on world peace, if this desire does not bring tangible, concrete benefits to you personally? Well, unless your chair is the UN Secretary General's chair. Of course, it is possible to order chimes every year to ensure that the people close to you are healthy and safe. This is a wonderful desire that shows the breadth of the soul and openness of the heart. But it does not happen that everyone is always healthy. You don't have to try to embrace the infinite, and then you don't have to be upset, which didn't work out.

Concepts are different

By the way, goals and dreams are completely different concepts. Dreams are a rest for the brain, relaxation. The goal is to constantly stimulate people to action, and his head works in a continuous search for recipes for success. But the dream can and should become a goal. This is how fairy tales become a reality.

Example: a girl dreams of being in Paris and looking at the Eiffel Tower from the bottom up, standing neatly under a grandiose construction. For years she cherishes these dreams, sees it in her dreams until she decides on specific actions, which eventually took only a few months:

  1. Goes on a French language course.
  2. Saves part of his monthly salary.
  3. He gets the support of a friend who travels the world without travel agencies and saves a lot of money.
  4. Executes visa not in the agency, but on the Internet.
  5. Takes a vacation and book a plane ticket.

By the time a trip to Paris in black and white is approved in the official vacation schedule, and the date is printed in the ticket, the idea ceased to be a dream, turning into a goal achieved.

And the result...

The result is a photograph of the Eiffel Tower, taken exactly under a grandiose design.
