Chapter 12 (continued)
Is it easy being a manager
And the job was boiling up. Well, I had one idea. I chose golden tones to decorate the rooms. They are very sunny, warm. The guests will love it. So the flowers, the big floor vases, my father had them somewhere, the curtains... I was so carried away that I wrote four sheets of paper that Ren suggested. He also wrote something, biting the tip of the pen. We were lucky to be friends with him! I couldn't have done it myself.
- It was done. - I held out my notes to Rena.
He was quick to look at them.
- Great.
His praise made me smile.
- Now, look at the manager's notes and, if someone's demands don't coincide with your plan, write down the names of these people and make changes. And also, it will be necessary to make sure that the eternal enemies will not settle with each other. This, too, should be in the papers, take a look.
I've been through the lists carefully. Reniard was right - now that the general part has been solved, the amendments have turned out to be substantial, but really executable. A pile of sheets also appeared before Ren. We'll have to see what he came up with.
Just when I thought about it, how the door opened.
- Lord Cavernell, her Highness is waiting for you by lunch," the servant said. - Lord Ayordan, lunch is served in the common dining room.
- We'll continue when I get back," I smiled at Reniard.
- Good luck, Elias," he waved.
Yes, luck wouldn't hurt me.
Poor Ari. How's she doing without me? The servant was on his way, and a few minutes later I was entering the princess' dining room. Ari stood by the window, but when she heard the footsteps, she turned around and smiled.
- It's good to see you, Lord Cavernell," she said, and then waved her hand to the servants, "Leave us alone! I will call you afterward.
Nobody argued with Ari, and the servants immediately evaporated, and we sat down at the table with snacks.
- I hope you're not too hungry," Ari whispered. - You can have lunch later. I was waiting for you this morning!
- Dad called. - I wriggled. - And I gave you a new assignment, but Ren and I almost did it.
- Me and Ren? - Arietta was squinting. - Elisa, honey, you fell in love with him after all!
- No way! - I wiggled my nose. - Who fell in love there? But with him it is interesting, he helps me. And in general, you better tell me what Willian wanted.
- Nothing special. - Ari waved her hand. - Tell about the new test. But you already know everything.
- Arietta, didn't you fall in love with our mystery secretary, did you? - I laughed, but my friend looked away and laughed. - Did Ari fall in love or something?
- No, it wasn't that... It wasn't that clear between us. I told you, we're friends. But... Forget about Bill. I thought I'd kill those two pompous turkeys I met this morning! Elisa, we need to take them out of the selection.
- Yesterday's turkeys were worse," I sighed. - There's no way we're gonna take them out. But we can win in a fair fight. That's what the selection is for. And now let's have lunch, I have all day to dig over the guest lists.
My cousin called the servants back, and we had a small talk, and then I went back to Ren and our records.
- How was lunch? - Reniard asked me when he saw me at the door. A pile of paperwork doubled in front of him, and he himself read the next few recommendations.
- The princess was extremely nice. - I smiled back. - We mostly talked about the weather.
- Yes? What an interesting topic.
But in Ren's eyes, a strange expression flashed. It was as if he was happy about that answer. Or did I think so? Maybe it's just fatigue? Or am I making it up?
- Wren, you like her, don't you? Elisa? - I asked quietly.
- She seems like a good person," the evasive answer followed. - Don't be distracted, Elias or the guests will tear you to shawls.
I reached for the papers. Oh, you're hard, the selection! I wonder if everybody lived to the end of it before. Because the trials were far from harmless, and the loss of Dad's staff worried. And then there was the sea of guests. The thief could pass on his discovery to anyone if he was still in the palace. The feeling of anxiety was not clear, and the breasts were crowded. No, not to think! Focus on the selection. Point.
I left Ren in the middle of the night. If my father had known about it, he would have cut me out - alone with a stranger until late at night. But Dad had no idea where to look for me, and I wasn't going to hint at that. So my reputation would remain clean and clean. And the selection will continue.
In the morning, I barely got my head caught off a pillow, and it was only because Reniard personally woke me up. He was so drumming at the door, he would have picked up the dead man and then shouted at the servant that it wasn't time for the gentleman to lie down. I had to get up. We had a quick breakfast and the work boiled over. Too bad she had to split up. Wren gave instructions to his subordinates, and I gave instructions to mine.
The manager gathered the maids in my living room. There were only twenty of them. And the rooms that were to be prepared were two hundred. Ten for each.
- Good morning, lady," she looked at the girls lined up in the same white aprons and dark blue dresses. - Today we'll have to work hard. For starters, I chose the general decoration of the rooms. They need to be decorated in golden tones. Everything is painted here," the senior maid handed out a sheet of paper. - When you're done with the main part of the preparation, I'll tell you where to put someone and what to add.
The girls immediately dispersed to their places. But instead of cooling off, I went from room to room and watched the work boil. The maids worked well together. It was obvious that they were used to what was happening, so by noon the rooms were ready. And then I moved on to the second stage of preparation - we hung up on the door signs with the names of the invitees. And then, thanks to the ordered lists, we added flowers, water, and fragrant sticks. Anything to make the guests happy. I had ten rooms for each girl. That's a lot, but what can you do? That's all I got. I wonder how Wren is doing?
When we were done, it got dark outside the windows. And I was crazy to see Wren. To share the results of his work, to talk. But I was afraid to stop him if he was busy. So I had dinner alone and went to bed, knowing that tomorrow was going to be a very difficult and responsible day.
