Around October last year, a man approached me. His situation was as follows.
There is an old brick house from my parents. 200 м2. There is heating, made by a fairly common once, on a solid fuel boiler with natural circulation and cast iron radiators at the rate of 1 section per m2 of floor. And there is a concomitant problem. Somewhere hot (2nd floor) somewhere cold. The disadvantage of such a system is that the coolant cools down very quickly, giving off heat.
This makes it worse than the more familiar single-pipe system such as this one, which has a bypass. The problem was aggravated by two other factors.
- All pipes are concealed by the finish. There is no complete picture of how it is actually done.
- Periodically, the lights are switched off, and the old boiler must be a natural circulation.
To begin with, he turned to heating companies/installationists. The verdict was simple: "We tear everything down and do it all over again. Taking into account the fact that the Moscow region, the prices began ... well, not cheap at all. And then he came to me for a project. Maybe we can make it cheaper. We talked for twenty or thirty minutes. I have found out a situation that and how, and I suggest: "Let's do one thing before we get into trouble. Of course, it costs money (20K), but it is quite possible to solve all your problems without a project at all. If it doesn't help, then the project, and everything else. Will you try? »
I asked him to install a circulation pump, but not the easiest one. The calculation was for the following.
1. All pipes are thick enough (natural circulation system) hydraulic resistance is low. If you start to "chase" water through the pipes very quickly, it will not have time to cool down. Roughly estimated, it turned out to be necessary to drive 3-4 m3 of water per hour. It almost evens out the temperature in all radiators within 5 g. (Weaker pumps may not pull.)
2. In case the electricity is switched off, the internal passage of such a pump is so large that it will have almost no effect on the natural circulation. Yes, the irregularity will appear again, but the boiler will not overheat and will be switched off for a short time.
That is one shot of two hares. And now spring... He did everything I asked him to do. What happened in the end:
- The batteries were all the same heat and the temperature in the rooms was up. (Somewhere it got too hot, but it was decided with other advice, see the postscript)
- During the winter, the electricity was really turned off several times when the boiler was working at maximum. There were no problems. And in terms of comfort, he did not even notice.
- Some neighbors (and there must have been a lot of construction in those years) did the same to themselves. And they were doing just as well.
Conclusion, based on this case and others that people treated me: The given problem is characteristic for very many old SECURITY heating systems with natural circulation. And this is a very simple, fast, and very inexpensive way to fix this problem without "killing" the EC.
P.S. How to treat the problem of "heat everywhere, but it is too hot here", because there is no control valves?
Everything is very simple, either you cover a part of the battery with a screen or paint with insulating paint. The same nano paints for thermal insulation that were very popular a couple of years ago.
