It is enough to smell its sweet perfume to be catapulted into childhood when our mothers and grandmothers used it as a beauty tonic. Rosewater is certainly a vintage product, but despite its more than 150 years of age, it is still on the crest of the wave. Today more than ever, given the increased need to soothe the skin, manifested especially by those who live in polluted environmental contexts.
Rosewater: what is it for?
The main use of rosewater is a soothing and refreshing tonic for the skin.
In the morning it wakes up the skin gently after rinsing the face, to neutralize the desiccant effects of limestone tap water. It can be used with or without cotton wool. In the evening, rosewater is perfect for completing the evening "facial cleansing" operation. Did your makeup very little or not at all? You can switch directly to rosewater, skipping the passage of cleansing milk. If your eyes are tired, use rosewater as a coolant. Soak some precious elixirs in cotton disks and put them in the fridge. When they are very cold, place them on the closed eyes for a few minutes to obtain immediate relief.
Therapeutic properties
The main properties of rosewater are soothing and protective: they strengthen the skin, helping it to better defend itself from external aggression. It is a cosmetic Passepartout suitable for all skin types, from dry to oily and panacea skin essential for sensitive skin: its mix of active ingredients such as flavonoids, antioxidants, vitamins, zinc, pectin s, polyunsaturated fatty acids, calms the reactive skin, reduces redness, purifies impure skin, disinfects acne and strengthens the skin structure, improving its natural defenses.
Rose and acne water
Rosewater can be used to reduce skin manifestations of acne because it has antiseptic and antimicrobial properties. In this way, it not only helps to eliminate the bacteria that cause pimples but also helps to speed up the healing process of post-acne scars. It should be remembered that rose distillate, unlike many topical acne treatments, is extremely gentle on the skin. Rosewater does not cause any irritation even when applied to sensitive skin affected by acne. Also, its refreshing effect helps to soothe redness, typical of inflamed skin, and to free the pores from impurities, thus preventing new skin rashes.
Rosewater for oily hair
Few people know the purifying virtues of rosewater on greasy hair and scalp. To free them from excess sebum, you can spray a pure rose distillate over the entire skin, wait a few minutes and then wash them. For the same reason, rosewater is useful to combat seborrhea dermatitis, a chronic-resident scalp condition that manifests itself in itching, greasy scales and irritation. Rosewater, applied to the roots of the hair with a cotton pad, cleanses the skin and calms the discomfort, reducing the discomfort and itching. It can be used before and after shampooing, reserving the latter use when seborrhea dermatitis is rather severe. For a stronger purifying action you can use rosewater as an ingredient in scalp scrubs: just mix it with sugar and honey in equal parts. Massage the paste obtained directly on the skin and then distribute it over the lengths. Finally, rinse with lukewarm water and proceed with a delicate shampoo.
Organic rosewater
Organic rosewater is the precious elixir obtained from the distillation of roses from organic cultivation. The procedure is the same: the water solution is "produced", that is, through the steam currents at very high temperatures. It is the method of growing roses that changes, as it does not involve the use of chemical herbicides. The qualities of distilled roses are mainly: dog rose, musk rose, Bulgarian rose, damask rose, centimole rose and Gallic rose.
