8. New breakthroughs in optical communication technology
"National "973" project of ultra-high-speed super-capacity ultra-long-distance optical transmission" passed the acceptance test in Wuhan, and realized the transmission of ultra-dense ultra-dense wavelength division multiplexing in a common single-mode fiber with a hair-thin thickness for the first time in China. Kilometers, the total transmission capacity reaches 100.23Tb/s, which is equivalent to 1.201 billion pairs of people talking on one fiber at the same time. This project was led by Wuhan University of Posts and Telecommunications, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Fudan University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology and other units, and achieved a breakthrough in the capacity of China's optical transmission experiments. Network transmission capacity is a key indicator for measuring the capacity and level of national network bearers. This project is dedicated to creating ultra-high-speed ultra-large capacity ultra-long-distance transmission networks, and the technical reserve for the next-generation optical transmission network, which promotes China's leading position in the field of optical communications.
9. Revealing the three-dimensional structure of Alzheimer's disease-causing protein for the first time
The Academic Researcher Shi Yigong of the College of Life Sciences of Tsinghua University revealed for the first time in the world the human γ-secretase complex directly related to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. (γ-secretase) Fine three-dimensional structure provides important clues for the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. Relevant results were published online in Nature in the long form. Alzheimer's disease, also known as Alzheimer's disease, not only causes great pain to patients and their families, but also imposes a heavy social burden. The team used transient transfection technology to successfully overexpress and purify γ-secretase complexes with good purity, uniformity and activity in mammalian cells. At the same time, the three-dimensional structure of the γ-secretase complex with a resolution of 4.5 angstroms was finally obtained by cryo-electron microscopy analysis of the obtained composite samples. According to this, scientists will open a new chapter in the study of Alzheimer's disease.
10. The first 30-meter resolution global surface overlay remote sensing mapping dataset was successfully developed and donated to the United Nations
The results of this “863” key project completed by the National Surveying and Mapping Geographic Information Bureau cover the global land area and two base years (2000 and 2010), including ten types of surface coverage information such as water, cultivated land and woodland. It provides detailed information on the distribution and change of global surface coverage, and increases the spatial resolution of similar global data products by 10 times. It is an indispensable and important foundation for global environmental change research and sustainable development planning. On September 22, 2014, Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli presented the results to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for free use by the UN system, member states and the international community. "Nature" magazine also made a special report. Thousands of scientists and users from more than 70 countries around the world have downloaded and used more than 30,000 data, and the results are playing an important role in global environmental change monitoring and sustainable development.
