Poppy plantation
Maca likes poor soils in rich soil. This can flourish in stony soils but does not support stagnant water. It has a long root, so you should give preference to deep soil. For this reason, it is impossible to grow it in pots. On the other hand, it is very hardy and can withstand temperatures as low as -30°C. In terms of exposure, poppy loves the full sun. The purchase of poppy in a bucket is made only on perennial varieties, not on annual ones. Pots are planted in March and April for beautiful summer flowering.
Steps for planting poppies
- Soak lumps in water pools
- Clean the soil, remove stones and spontaneous grass by about 30 centimeters. It's all over the planting area.
- If the soil is heavy, mix it with the sand. You can add compost to your garden soil.
- Fill the base of the holes with a mixture of soil/sand/compost
- Place lumps at the bottom (which you can bind to other perennial plants) so that the stem of the plant reaches ground level
- Fill in the voids with the backing
- stuff
- sprinkle
Poppy sowing
Usually, they sow poppies, both annual and perennial. We sow from April to August in chess order, so that flowering lasts a maximum of the time. It is sufficient to warm up the ground before sowing on the fly. Seeds should not be covered with soil more than 1.5 mm thick. Then water in light rain until it appears. If you decide to collect your own poppy seeds from year to year, you should be aware that the colors of the flowers may differ.
A thousand and one poppy color
Small and wrinkled poppy petals make them successful! This carelessness of the field flowers gives charm to the garden. The colors are varied: red, pink, orange, white or even blue. There is something for everyone! Oriental Papaver 'Queen Alexandra' has a gentle pink color, while Oriental Papaver 'Picotee' has a white heart with orange ends. Some varieties have the tips of serrated petals, such as Papaver somniferum 'The Danish flag' and the East Pope 'The Tramp'. Don't forget about Oriental Papa "Watermelon" with its XXL pink flowers.
Mac: drug or seasoning?
Papaver somniferum Album is a variety grown for the production of morphine or, more illegally, opium. The one we consume is Papaver somniferum 'Nigrum' and it is not amazing! Don't panic when you see seeds or poppy oil, it's Nigrum.

Content: It is relatively easy to grow a finalist in spring, in a sunny place, but not too hot. This plant can be sown undercover and then placed in place after 6-8 weeks when the risk of freezing is over. You can also split the bundle in spring to multiply the fizalis. This plant particularly appreciates limestone and stony soils. If you plant a few feet of files, keep a distance of at least 1 meter in all directions, because this plant can sometimes be invasive. You can put up stems if they seem too fragile. Approximately one month after planting, apply fertiliser or compost to the foot of the fisalis. From September onwards, you have the option of picking fruit if it is ripe. To do this, the fruit reaches full maturity and the cover should open. Protect the fizalis from the cold in winter.
