What to say about this technique except that it's cool! But let's go in stages…
How did I get there?
Another fisherman pushed me, an expert in the technique that invited me to try.
He recommended the equipment and talked about the technique... and I, intrigued I went!
How does it work? It works like spinning, but the equipment is specific and there is a philosophy behind it.
Where do you practice? It is practiced in sports fishing ponds, where we practice the so-called Trout Lake.
What are the main features? There are some rules that derive from the philosophy of catch and release... there are some interesting concepts that I invite you to read here.
But let's get to my meeting.
I was fishing in the fishing pond “Al Maglio " of my friend Michele in San Martino Buon Albergo here in Verona, a quiet pond with many trout, even in size, kept excellently and passionately, clean and followed very well. You can also take the opportunity to make a great meal at the mallet, in the break between the first and the second caught. In fact it is also a great restaurant!
I take the rod, the reel, the wire and the man-made, I prepare everything and I go to the pond.
First pitch, one tap, one trout ... Wow!
Second throw nothing ... Third Nothing, fourth Trout ... Wow
And then so on.. for hours
I had a great time... but it was a good day.…
The second time many throws very few trout, the third fourth time many throws and some trout, the fifth time as the first ... Wow!
It goes to days and changes depending on situations (like spinning and fishing in general) but I found it a really very profitable technique.
The main features are the fact of fishing with short rods from 1.65 to 1.80 mt more or less, very fine threads, 0.16 max for nylon and invisible braids, reels 1000 or max 2000 and small spoons from 2 to 3.5 gr (this is what I used)
The barrel is very important it must be able to throw from 0,5 to 5 grami, and it must be sensitive but at the same time resistant in order to muffle the fights well, with parabolic action. I used two of them a Fenwick I used for ultra light and a favorite arena 682 UL specific for Trout area taken from Tuttospinning.com (a very nice online store for spinning and Trout Area) Specific for Trout Area. I saw the difference.
The reel I used is an AerNos 2000, it behaved excellently (although it was not specific).
The spoon, are a novelty for me (so small), I used undulating in the past, but big J, and then I was always captured by the love for rotary and minnows, while here the mini-undulating are the masters, are a lot of fun, and with this equipment, which is 3.5 grams get very far and you feel it...my favorites were the ones by 3.5 grams, the pink one and the black one of the Molix.
The funniest thing is to hear the fish that eats... it's just like that (runs behind our artificial and tries to bite it or pulls some nice heads) and keep it in the barrel after the ferrata is cool, even small fish give a lot of satisfaction... it's fun. The big fish, the ones over half a kilogram, you have to sweat them.
Another thing that made me think... is that I never touched the fish with my hands, following the rules of this technique I freed it in the landing net, holding it in the water and I liked this.
I noticed a peculiarity fishing with two rods: a specification and a no. The main fact is the sensitivity to the touch and the ability to handle the fish with very fine threads, the specific Rod helps not to spoil and stress too much the thread and always brings you the fish in the landing net, of course a good reel with the clutch calibrated well is very important in this technique, at least as much as the rod.
We spend two more words on the barrel, the Favorite Arena: I must say that the first impression had immediately struck me for the workmanship and finishes. It is really beautiful: very careful details and excellent balance from The worked handle, Cork and wood to the Rings and graphics. I confirm it: really a beautiful rod and then having tried it, stressed and mistreated a little bit I must also say that it has proved excellent for fishing trout in the pond and release them, as the philosophy of this technique wants but if you want to eat Trout no one forbids it canna the rod works great.
I certainly want to deepen the thing and I will definitely try other equipment for the Trout Area but I immediately realized (also in this technique) that the specific equipment is better than a generic equipment: that applies both in spinning in general and especially in a technique like this, in which the details make the difference.
