Planting peonies

Peonies love deep soils, rotten and wet, without standing water. That's why we avoid putting them in pots. The containers are not deep enough for the roots and the base dries too quickly. Peonies are greedy plants, and they also value heavy clayey soils. On the other hand, they are afraid of acidic soils and prefer limestone. If they are exposed to side effects, place them in the sun or the shade, but in a place protected from the wind. Plant peonies between September and May, avoiding frost.

Steps to plant the peony:

  1. Maintain a planting distance of 80 cm to 1 meter between each plant
  2. Dig a hole at a distance of 40-50 cm
  3. If your land is heavy, apply a drainage layer to the bottom of the pit (gravel or clay balls).
  4. Mix garden soil with compost or manure
  5. Place a root ball or roots (if the plant is empty) in the well
  6. Kidneys of herbaceous varieties should not be covered with more than 3 cm of soil, against 6 cm of lumpy soil
  7. Fill in the blanks
  8. Tampa and water are plentiful.
  9. Add stakes so that the weight of the flowers does not affect the plant.

Maintain and cut peony

Do not forget to water regularly in the first few years in hot weather. Keep a damp but not wet substrate. You can give them compost or manure once a year, in spring or autumn. Cut flowers when they fade to revive the production of new flowers. Peony does not need to be cut, just make sure you remove the dryness and the twigs are wrong.

Multiply peony

To multiply the peony, it is necessary to divide the beam.

  1. Clean the peony with a shovel. Dig wide around the leg to avoid damaging the roots
  2. Remove the soil around the roots to distinguish them
  3. Each batch will have at least three roots and three buds
  4. Divide the roots into several parts with a sharp blade
  5. transplant every shine by following the landing advice

Varieties of herbaceous or shrubby peonies

There are about 30 species of peonies, divided into two categories:

  • into herbaceous peonies, which are most often planted and which reach a height of 1 meter. The most common herbaceous variety is Paeonia lactiflora. It offers flowers XXL (5-20 cm) and is flavored in May and June.
  • It is a peony tree that forms deciduous woody shrubs with a height of 1 to 2 meters. Growth is slower and flowers only appear after a few years. After installation, the shrub lives for several decades. Double, simple, spherical or bowl-shaped flowers offer a great variety of shapes and colors.

Planting the first flowers

Primordial flowers love fertile soils, bent but drained. We avoid placing them in the sun, most varieties appreciate partial aging. Depending on the variety, the first flowers are grown all over the garden, in pots and even on the edge of the pond. Rustic, some species tolerate up to -20°C. Primeval flowers are planted between October and March, except for frosty periods.

Steps to graft the first flowers:

  1. Place the ball in the pelvis with water
  2. Dig a hole a little wider and deeper than a root ball. If you want to plant more than one plant at a time, dig a hole in the right planting area.
  3. Place the drainage layer at the bottom of the well (if your soil is already well-drained)
  4. Mix some compost with your garden soil and place it on a drainage layer
  5. If your land is heavy, add some sand.
  6. Place the root ball in the hole so that the leg reaches ground level
  7. Fill the voids with a mixture of earth and compost
  8. Tampa and water are plentiful.

Maintain the first colors

Primroses are like cool soils, so you need to water them several times a week, especially if they are fixed. Keep a damp but not wet substrate that can rot. By mulching your foot, you will maintain moisture in summer. Once a month, bring organic fertilizer.

Multiply primrose

Every three to four years, after flowering, it's time to break the lumps! To do this, dig up the first color, then gently remove the soil around the roots. Then divide the roots with a sharp blade. Replant in the right places, following the planting steps.

Varieties of primary colors

White, yellow, red, blue or pink, primroses take on different colors and shapes. In the yellow section, one of the most common is the primrose of the medicinal color, also called the cuckoo. It has small yellow flowers from April to May. It is often grown in the garden, but it is a wild species that you can cross at a turn. Do not confuse it with the primrose, which has a little pale yellow. In pink, we count on Primula Siebold or Primula valid for ponds. We do not forget about Primula vulgaris, which is very tasty.
