After the loss of Oswald Disney, there was nothing left but to come up with a new star for his cartoons. So the world was born famous mouse Mickey Mouse ("His first name was Mortimer Mouse, but this name did not like my wife Lillian, and she offered to call him Mickey. However, the first two cartoons with the participation of Mickey Mouse studio could not sell: they were mute, and the movie theaters have already come sound. Nevertheless, it was the cartoon in this series that won the first Oscar for the studio in 1932 as the best-drawn film. From that moment until the end of the pre-war decade of cartoons from Disney received an Oscar every year. He received 29 such awards for his work.
The theme of all of Disney's works is the fight against evil. Disney loved the happy finals and settled all his characters in the space of his own chaste worldview. So he "earned" himself an image of a morally pure man. But he was an evil smoker and almost an alcoholic. About his affair with actress Dolores del Rio was known to everyone in Hollywood. However, no reporter dared not spoil his reputation. Why? Disney created for us a world of happiness, a refuge from the misery of reality, and it would be ingratitude to hurt him. "Motherhood, apple pie, and Disney" is the holy American "trinity". Saints cannot be desecrated.
In 1933, the daughter of Walt and Lillian - Diana was born. And in the same 1933 Disney released his first colorful cartoon "Three Pigs". The song "We are not afraid of the gray wolf", which sounded there, became a national hit.
Meanwhile, the studio is growing. A few more cartoons are being made. Mickey mouse wins the hearts of millions - and not only Americans but Europeans as well. In 1934, Walt Disney announced to his staff that he intends to make a full-length animated film Snow White and seven dwarves. To this idea, many were skeptical at first: few people believed that the picture, which will not be live actors, will be able to interest the audience as well as the big movie. However, gradually Disney's plan has ceased to seem fantastic, and the work has boiled.
Filming lasted for three years and cost a crazy amount of those times - $1.499 million from the ruin of Disney saved only the loan "Bank of America", the head of which - Amadeo Giannini - was very fond of Mickey Mouse. But the result was worth the money because Snow White was for a long time the most cash movie of all time (its record was broken only by the Gone With the Wind). And in 1939, Walt Disney was awarded the ninth Oscar for this feature-length cartoon.
