In this article, I will tell about a loophole of our mind which allows us to eliminate any psychological problems cleanly and irrevocably.
You will learn about perception filters that distort the information coming from outside, thus generating a lot of internal conflicts and psychological problems.
What are perception filters?
Looking at the world through pink glasses. What does this mean? It means to see only the good, only the beautiful, completely ignoring the problems and troubles that objectively exist in this world.
Pink glasses are a filter that does not allow negative information to flow from outside. It's like a water filter: it lets in water, and heavy chemical elements delay it.
But there are also gray glasses - apathy glasses. Only negative information leaks through their glasses and any positive information is simply not perceived by people.
It is difficult to reach a person wearing grey glasses with joyful appeals. He sees only the joylessness surrounding him. The future seems hopeless to him, but the present is simply unbearable.
Each person has an individual set of colored glasses. Moreover, they change quite automatically, depending on the conditions in which a person is now.
These filters create a lot of different problems in life: they narrow down the perception corridor, limit awareness and keep in negative emotional states for a long time.
Perception filters distort the truth
Ever heard of "prisms" or "showers" through which people perceive the world?
So, information about any external events is passed through the individual prisms of each person. Then the distorted information gets to the level of awareness.
As a result, different people assess an event differently, even though they have observed it together at the same moment in time.
Everyone will have their own point of view on the event that has just occurred. Everyone will have their own vision and feelings about it, won't they?
Can the situation be a cause of emotion?
Let's say the boss called a subordinate to the carpet. I wanted to talk to him calmly and explain everything. Instead, he couldn't stand it and started yelling.
The subordinate feels a strong fear that he will be fired now. Can you say that he feels this fear only because he is under threat of being fired right now?
To find out, let's take five people and put them in the same situation: an evil boss yells and can fire them. Let's ask everyone: what emotion does this situation cause?
The first one answered that depression. The second said that there is a reciprocal anger. The third said he was desperate to find a way out. The fourth one has self-pity, and the fifth one is in panic.
It turns out that everyone has their own emotions. So the situation itself is not the cause of emotion, otherwise, the emotions would be the same for everyone.
And now even more interesting fact!
Let's change the conditions. Let us have 5 people who feel offended when the boss shouts at them. All five of us have a grudge in our throats. But for one reason?
The first one says that he feels offended because of injustice: he did everything he could, and he is being scolded. The second is sure that it is not deserved: he should be praised, not scolded.
The third is offended by the rudeness of the boss. The fourth one is offended by the ruthlessness with which the boss tells him off. The fifth is offended at himself for his own carelessness.
What is injustice, unfairness, ruthlessness, and carelessness? These are the evaluation filters of perception!
Each person has its own set of filters. In the same situation, people will have different filters. Accordingly, they will generate different emotions.
Which words are evaluation filters?
Almost all evaluation filters are words that end with an "awn", but most often with an "awn". This is an average and generalized evaluation, which is almost always exaggerated.
For example, hopelessness means total absence of an exit (it simply does not exist!). Uselessness means that absolutely any effort will lead to nothing.
Thus the estimation of a situation seems to the person absolutely correct and, as if an axiom in geometry, does not demand check and proofs. Evaluation is always beyond critical thinking, so it is never questioned.
